I cannot argue with the first two paragraphs. However, I should say:
Smoking weed is hilariously lame.
But I think drinking is equally as lame, it’s just not lame AND illegal.

My personal opinion is that recreational drug use of any sort (smoking, drinking, pot, coke, etc) is fucking stupid.
But I’ve been a straightedge kid all my life. I just don’t ever want to feel different than the way I feel right now. I don’t understand why anyone else would… if you need a drug to have fun or escape reality, then find out what’s wrong and change it.
That said, I don’t have an issue with people using it for medicinal purposes if it’s helping them physically. (Not helping them cope). But if you have cancer and you’re using it to aid in a cure AND love getting ripped off your ass, then, yeah… I think that’s lame too.

I don’t know much about pot other than there have been multiple times where people I was around were so high that I was annoyed/inconvenienced by it. That was enough to formulate an opinion about it.
That’s the same reason I don’t like drinking. But since drinking is “accepted” I have to deal with a lot more, and thus my tolerance has to be higher or I will have to be TOTALLY anti-social.

You use other things such as piercings and tattoos as your outlet, other people use drugs. Deny it all you want, but there’s a reason you have a piece of steel through your nose.
The fact is, pot has been on the earth for millions of years. It evolved into what it is, and no doubt in my mind early homo sapiens and neanderthals giggled their asses off 200,000 years ago when they first discovered it. The image of that in my head makes me laugh every time.

The things that I like (piercings, cars, etc) do not change the way I feel.
Having a nose ring does not change my emotional state. Liking something is not even remotely similar to changing the way my brain perceives things with a chemical. You can’t possibly even try to draw that parallel.
I don’t ever want to feel any different than I do right now because of some chemical.

I don’t think I have any addictions. Seriously. I have a very unaddictive personality. I’ve tried or experienced a lot of things considered addictive, and not once felt like I needed it in my life. And I’m not just talking about drugs here, I’m also talking about psychological dependencies.
I would like to pick up an eating disorder though.
And while on this subject, I think it’s really sad that people have addictions. These things start to control their lives. And I’m not just talking about marijuana. I think marijuana should be legal actually. But alcohol. I think alcohol should be illegal. Or they should put more restrictions on it. A lot of people are going to cranky about that, but it’s true.
I’ll agree with you that having piercings, tattoos, etc does not chemically change your state of mind, but it HAS to change the way you feel about yourself or else why would you do it? It’s an outlet, a statement, whatever you want to call it. I mean, why can’t you just wake up, put on some non-skinny jeans, go to work with a normal haircut without any piercings or tattoos showing and blend in with the rest of the world? 
People choose to do things for different reasons. I used to be a pretty big pot-head because it helped me understand things in a way I never could before, for whatever reason. I think Joe summed it up the best so far: Idiots will be idiots no matter what, and vice versa. The use of drugs an/or alcohol just amplifies whatever that person is. I think money does the same thing.
i love how some people smoking a bong outside an office building has sparked a 3 page thread and if someone had made a thread about 2 dudes drinking 40s from paper bags in front of their office, it would be the most deserted thread ever.
