lol I was just thinking this can end similarly to Romney’s tax return thing that was in the news a while ago.
Meh, it’s not how much you make, but what you do with it. I know people who make hundreds of thousands of dollars but have nothing to show for it. I know people who make $30k a year but have $25k liquid. How much money someone makes doesn’t equate to how successful they are.

Fo sho but makin them Becks puts you in a great position to get the ball rollin on makin that money work!
PS 25k liquid is for poor people wasssaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa e-penis erection!!!
But really it is my belief/opionion that touting your financial position or salary is low class. That is how I was raised and what I believe. There are ways to compare yourself among peers without being as blatant and also obv certain discussions to be had among close friends/family.
I make half of what cougarspeed makes always. Iz da law
Meh, people who arent happy with their income are the people who say “talking about how much you make is petty/low class/ etc.”. Dont get pissed, instead use this thread to motivate yourself.
That is certainly a false statement. I would in fact say the opposite is true. It is the lower class/income people who want the validation when they think they are in a position to brag. The notion that you need people to tell you they do better then you for motivation is quite strange I might add. I am motivated to do great things with my life daily and will ALWAYS know someone out there is doing bigger and better things.
Assuming anything about my financial position because I believe that is silly at best.
I’m broke as shit.
Fuck you guys.
This is kinda like how many people have you had sex with, men always double.
Making huge bank obviously has advantages. Freedom to buy what you want/travel/security. I would love to be rich but I would go insane if I wasn’t doing something. I need some type of 9-5, doesn’t have to be a job, it could be a hobby, charity work, etc…
I know we’ve moved on from this but this statement is not true.
Grandmother sold her 1300 SF 1950’s ranch in the more affluent northern Boston suburbs and got 350K for it 6 months ago. They were asking 440K for the smaller house next door at the same time. It’s the same type of house you can buy in Henrietta for 110K. Absolutely no difference in the quality of the house.
Bwhaha
lol
I would discuss my salary/income with my friends, I really have no qualms as long as it’s someone close to me and as long as it’s not in a competitive way. Certainly not going to use a condescending/bragging tone though. It can be beneficial especially when your friends work in the same field or for competing companies.
I moved away from NY (specifically Long Island) to get away from the “keeping up with the jones’” bullshit. No need to compete with anyone on income and material possessions.
Wow, this thread turned into the biggest tangent.
on that note. it took me over a year to tell my now wife what my income was. I don’t think anybody else knows except for my accountant and the loan officer when i purchased my home. My income is my business. literaly.
Right now, i choose to work about 20hrs a week so i can spend quality time with my wife and kids. To me, that’s success.
My live-in girlfriend of over 1.5 years still has no idea what mine is. It’s not her business. Her brother and father have made remarks though, but they do what I do, so they know what’s up.
How much you make versus how much debt you have is also important to me…
What’s the big deal if you make six figures and you are seven figures in debt…?
I live within my means. My means just allowed me to take 7 vacations last year…
In some cases, there are security risks with letting others know what your income levels and sources are, but I think for most people there isn’t any significant risk. Personally, I think it’s kind of silly to keep such secrets from people you care about, but I understand it’s totally up to the individual. So I say, to each his own.
Beck, on your comment about people making remarks about your finances, I have to say that I would be pissed off if anyone ever said shit to me about what I make. Mostly because it shows they over think it and are jealous/upset/competitive about it. Trying to guilt trip someone over their personal finances is just plain retarded.
lol
This thread is hilarious.
This is the truth. I have actually made higher than normal money for my age but always blew it and had nothing to show for it. Since I got my new job this year, I have started saving and putting it into things like investments and saving for a rental property so I have things of value.
Lol. Teacher.
Henrietta is a little different than Buffalo. They have a growing economy. My point was a nice house here in Buffalo is great but with the low incomes and no real growth or future, I would still rather pay more for a small place in a lively place like San Fran or Boston where there is lots of people with money instead of buying a house in a city like Buffalo where you can run into crashing property values or a tough market to sell it.
oh how times have changed
