Tom Brady: Most Hated man in Buffalo?

Who the fuck wants $9 drinks and $20 covers by choice? Price gouging at bars is no way to rebuild one of the poorest cities in America…Blue Monk and Snooty have just as many douchebags as place with $2-$3 drinks.

Wherever the young white women are, eventually the word gets out, and the riff raff follows. Hell, it even happened to Myspace. Drink prices don’t matter, they’ll show up already wasted, flask it, or even blow a week’s pay/benefit check. Whatever it takes. If rendezvous starts having a 2-1 positive ratio, it will happen there too.
I’m not spending $200 just on drinks for myself anywhere. This isn’t Manhattan, Vegas, the Gaslamp in San Diego, or South Beach. Don’t try to charge like it.

+1

If I am not paying $20 cover and $9 drinks in a club full of dudes, how would people know how cool I am?

It seems that the people hating on development of any type are the same ones who bitch about buffalo sucking. Why is that? Is complaining just that much more fun?

Yup. People just love to bitch and complain. Go read any comment thread on Buffalo Rising and you’ll want to gouge your eyes out.

Everyone is happy for development but its just not the right type. The city and state giving money to private development companies who are building night clubs is not a real growing point of Buffalo. You can have expensive clubs when you are a growing city with a visiting crowd, not to leech money out of the already sub average population. I would much rather support them building up the water front and making it a visitor friendly city, then have the expensive clubs to leech money from the tourists.

I think the explanation is more than likely that for the past 20+ years, since much of the industrial industry has declined so much, that people are a bit jaded. Folks our age (20-30’s) really have only seen buffalo decline. Quite frankly, when all you are used to is decline, you become bitter.

Most people that I’ve met who are Buffalo natives, are proud to be. They want to continue to be proud, though. They want to see the area grow, but shit head politicians don’t help the cause. Conservatives who are scared shitless of change, don’t help the cause.

Over time these things can (and likely will) change. Baby boomers are retiring, and as they exit politics and local businesses, younger fresher minds with new ideas will take over and hopefully prevail.

I think it’s more psychological and people are just so bummed out with their own lives that they try to drag down everything around them.

Like Brian said we want to see useful development…

However if we got a bass pro it would really fix things :bloated:

If only someday I could be as happy as newman

I don’t think that’s true…well, not entirely anyways. I am sure that for some people that may be true. I think you’re being unfair though, by saying that everyone who complains just sucks. If everyone in Buffalo thought that the status-quo was great, there would be zero development.

There’s more going on than just night clubs (thankfully). I’ve been seeing quite a few ‘middle class’ restaraunts opened up recently…Cobblestone, Hertel, BlackRock, etc. It’s happening, it’s just not well known. Now with this Marroit going in in that old disgusting Donovan building we’ll have another nice example of something middle ground to offer up to the middle class.

There really is a lot going on in Buffalo, it’s just not in your face. I’ve seen big name comedians at Nietshce’s, listened to world renowned jazz music at Birchfield Penny, hit up Town Ballroom for music more times than I can count, drank the rarest of beers from 2 of the top 100 beer bars in the nation…and (while I have yet to attend) would love to check out the speakers that roll through UB.

To Newmans’ point, you have to get out there and see for yourselves…crack open an Artvoice, hit up Buffalo Rising…both of those do a great job of highlighting what’s new.

Everyone bitched about the waterfront project under the skyway. You know what, it’s nice down there, better than it was, and a step in the right direction. I think everyone wants an instant solution, because we’re used to that type of thing, but there’s no way it can happen.

Also, a much nicer landing pad for a jump from the skyway.

I enjoy going out to eat in Buffalo and having a few drinks and making a night of it…until 9 pm. When the mall closes and all the Verizon reps (sorry Jeff) and Buckle employees come out to spend their hard earned paychecks on drinks. There seem to be no nice places to go that have any sort of “exclusivity” anymore. Sure if you go to Left Bank or Prime 490 or even Hutches you can have a nice meal and not be bothered, unfortunately any other halfway “decent” bar is crowded by the end of the night with ruckus and the parking lots are filled with 125,000 mile luxury cars (Mothers, etc)

Beck, have you been to Vera? Pretty new place…has a fancy drink menu and an atmosphere you may like. Great service there, dude running the joint is incredibly personal and makes your visit seem highly appreciated and welcomed.

Yeah, Vera is awesome. Easily one of my favorite places in the city.

Exclusivity isn’t going to do much in buffalo, because there aren’t enough people who can afford it.

Well, let me re-phrase that. There are plenty of people who can afford it, but most of them older more conservative people who don’t care to go to clubs…Well, that’s a pretty hefty assumption on my part, but I really do think it will hold true.

Like others have said, it’s not Vegas/Southbeach/NYC/LA. One or two “exclusive” clubs would be enough.

No offense taken, I know exactly what you mean…

Man, you got elderly real quick.

Hahahahah awesome

If bars want to be like NYC/Vegas/Miami then they should do the cover or bar tap option. Anywhere I went in big cities, they would have like a $20 cover of $50 bar tab for two people which made it a lot more fun and kept the useless people who just wanted to cause problems out.
