Toronto to Vancouver Roadtrip

NOTE i wasnt sure where to post this since we dont have a public ‘off topic’ forum so i put it here… mods feel free to move it if its in the wrong place! and i apoligies in advance if it is!

Hey all! So as the titles states… i want to go to Vancouver… yea Driving!
Anyone here done it before?? Cause im trying to find not so much the fastest way but i dont want to circle the globe either before finally arriving in BC!

Now the only catch is i wanna do it without entering the states…if thats at all possible… i’ve heard stuff about the Trans Canada Highway… which supposedly takes you from coast to coast… but when i try to google a route… it takes me through a bunch of states and back into canada at vancouver…

Reason for not wanting to go state side… is im picking up some car parts in vancouver… and if i come back over the border i have to confront customs… and boy do i hate customs!! so they gonna ask and i’ll have to tell them and so i though if i just drive within Canada i need not worry about customs…

Now i know what your thinking… the time and effort and money involed in a toronto to vancouver road trip would probably more then cover shipping cost… well thats not the only reason im going… my sister is living there and she comes back in april… and so we though instead of flying it would be cool to road trip it… its been on hers and mine To Do: list for a long time!

Anyways thats the story any one with any advice, tips, warnings, anything at all please share!

Here are google maps of the fastest route without entering the states

how did you get it to search in Canada only??

The distance in Km’s are like exactly the same! why does it take 10 hours more through Canada???

via Canada = 4365 kms
via USA = 4370 kms

speed limits maybe?

what about only making the return trip through canada, that way you get to see more stuff too.

I wann do this trip…i think i might be able to in a few years my parents want to visin my uncle soon so i might drive …while they fly lol

yeah it is based on speed limits…

a lot of the us highway speed limits are 65mph which is a bit higher than they are here.

also, when you do a route in google you can click on the route and drag it wherever you want if you dont like it and it will re-route it for you

yea so i found this website… i think it will come in real handy…it has a listing of each provice and its most common speed trap locations! yeaa and theres much more to see through Canada!
http://www.transcanadahighway.com

Oh goodness i’ve road-tripped out west more than once…love it. Always memorable.

Take the trans canada highway (hwy 1 IIRC) and get a REAL Canada map lol, right from one end of the trip to the other. I believe you can get jumbo Canada map books from Walmart for like $7-9.

Have fun, enjoy Saskatchewan’s 110km/h limit, the straight roads and scenery are nuts! :stuck_out_tongue:

im going to be doing this in July maybe and I think it will also be a blast, hahah you also might want to have a daily plan for how far you want to go each day

My friend and I ended up coming back from Edmonton to Toronto in one go haha…we just felt like it.

Took 36 and 3/4 hours straight driving…I slept 1 and 1/2 of that…

Invest into a GPS unit - they are great!

Not only will it show you a route with turn by turn directions - but it’ll show hot-spots for gas, food, shopping, attractions, etc.

  1. You dont need gps
    theres no turns to take

  2. Northern ontario and BC are the only interesting bits.

3.manitoba, sask, and alberta are boring as fuck

  1. DONT SPEED, there are WAY more cops than you think and anyone over 115 gets booked
