No hate on the car, just a lot of fggts that are going to buy it. I was hoping it wasn’t a pile of shit, it sounds pretty cool.
I want a BRZ/FRS really bad. I almost feel obligated to buy one. All us car enthusiasts do is complain that car companies don’t make a car the way we think a car should made, and their excuse is that it won’t sell well. So, if we don’t buy these things, we are going to get more Scion TCs and FWD Mitsubishi Eclipses.
This car has the right ingredients on paper. I think they missed the mark a bit on some things, but the basic formula is great, and I’m sure the aftermarket will more than make up for some of it’s shortcomings. Looking forward to an STi version…
^ This. For the price I would have liked to have seen a bit more power, or have it be a bit cheaper with the current power. Bottom line though it’s a brand new, rear drive/front engine manual trans car that hits the scaled under 2800lbs. That’s a great starting point for building something awesome compared to a wrong wheel drive Civic or a 3200lb WRX.
I’ve been seeing A LOT of them. Definitely seems destined for success and a good future. Definitely looking forward to see what the modding potential is.
how many other performance minded cars are under 25k?
I haven’t driven one yet but I like the idea of it. And I keep seeing a white one that looks good.
Been telling myself that I’m going to pick up a used 2013 GT500 down the road but this is very tempting.
The BRZ was really intriguing to me, with my Legacy lease expiring in 2013.
i drove one. didn’t like it. maybe they’ll grow on me.
Seems like cars on complete opposite ends of the spectrum
Accelerated Performance out of Toledo, OH has already dipped into turbocharging one. They’ve managed to get just about 280whp out of it with the fuel system maxed…linky - here
Few other points I would never buy the first year release of a car till they work the bugs out for next year…
Also going the aftermarket turbo route on a new car :tif:
Just wait a year or two for them to release a turbo version and keep your warranty a little bit longer.
Might be ready for something different by then.
Someone was giving a brz the business at an autox at LES a couple weeks ago and it was doing really well.
Stopped into this shop about a month ago on the way home from Gingerman. If anyone can put together a decent turbo kit, it seems like these guys may be it. Took a ride along in this when it was only on 4psi and ~220whp.
I was also able to tour their stable of 1,200 and 2,200 rwhp Supras and Mustangs. Yeah… :thud:
Damn. So, dyno queens then…?
I’d like to see just how much abuse this engine can take, and then back it off. This car isn’t about max power, it’s supposed to be a well balanced car. Some of the auto rags that have done testing on this car say that it’s definitely an underwhelmed chassis, so it could use more power - just a 30-40 hp bump and a way better tune than the shit factory one should make this thing do the dance pretty well.
No, most of their cars are raced…mostly drag. Their goal for now is to get into the 400whp range with the BRZ and offer kits to consumers. Yeah, they’re inching it up slowly to hopefully preserve the motor.
They already have an NA catback they were rolling out.
This probably goes without saying, but hopefully 30-40hp should come without the need for forced induction. If it responds well to basic mods, that would be sweet.
