in one case you’re paying for the chassis, in the other you’re paying for the engine.
BRZ should never have been released NA … I can’t for the life of me figure out why they wouldn’t put an existing turbo drivetrain in this vehicle. They must have very high profit margins and very low warranty claims, though.
Because this:
Is a lot sexier than this:
Should the BRZ come with a turbo for 26k? Yep. As long as they keep selling for 26k without one don’t expect to see a price drop or a turbo for that price any time soon.
I’m not sure I’d call a BRZ/FRS sexy…cool, but not sexy…
Compared to it’s 26k competition, the BRZ is pretty sexy. It might only be a 6 but when it’s standing in a sea of 3’s and 4’s it starts looking like an 8.
This could have something to do with the price increase?
In 2014, as part of running changes consistent with those of the MY15 Toyota 86 GTS, the Subaru BRZ also featured a new key fob and two new colours, including ‘WR Blue Pearl’ metallic finish.[SUP][36][/SUP] In addition, Subaru also launched special editions both for the United States and Australia markets. For the former, one thousand BRZ Series.Blue editions were marketed at additional cost, half in painted in Blue Pearl and the other half in Crystal Pearl White. This model featured STi body kit parts, 17-inch STi black alloy wheels and red brake calipers. For Australia, Subaru launched a similar variant known as the Special Edition, also at additional cost. It featured stripes across the bonnet, boot and roof; 17-inch STi black alloy wheels; STi boot spoiler plus front, side and rear-side under spoilers; a rear diffuser and a push-button starter switch. It was available in every existing BRZ paint hue.
Also, in 2004 when the Scion TC was unvealed, the starting MSRP was $17,670 and they sold 28,062 in the US. By the 2006, they had their best year selling 79,125. I realize that we are talking less money, but for the car, it was a base 4 cyl. car that every teen driver was drooling over to get. I remember in high school, if you had one, you thought you had the best car available.
I would think this is part of their marketing scheme as well. They know who their market is and they know that people will buy it, even if it is priced higher.
Also, there’s this:
In the United States, Scion were allocated 10,000 units for the 2013 model year,[SUP][18][/SUP] while Subaru was limited to only 6,000 units.[SUP][19][/SUP]
Maybe they are trying to price gouge to make up the sales they are losing out on by not having the stock?
you guys have to understand the production costs for a low volume car vs. something like an evo or wrx where they can spread it out across millions of economy models.
totally sums it up.
the WRX is the flagship vehicle for Subaru and while the BRZ is certainly a lot better looking I doubt they want to give it the right drivetrain for the same price as the WRX because it would most likely affect WRX sales.
pretty much the same reason that VW wont bring over the new Scirocco because it will ruin GTi sales numbers
I really like it besides the fact with a 6.8 0-60 time you’re getting passed by soccer moms in SUVS
What’s a Miata cost, they in the same league of handling cars with no power?
Although not the prettiest thing, the WRX chassis is quite good. Look at it’s size/wight/stiffness/impact ratings compared to other cars. Then remember it’s 26k. If the BRZ was 18-20k it would fit in better. It’s not practical enough to be a DD, which put it on my list this past summer when I was shopping for a fun car. I opted for a low mileage C5 instead, saving 7k and getting so much more. You might be thinking, ‘how can you compare an old used GM to a brand new Jap car’. The BRZ goes on that list because it’s not something you would buy to drive daily (no space, relatively poor gas mileage, ect) and keep for 150k miles.
It has to do with the design/build/marketing agreement with Toyota. It was something like 4 or 5 years from the original release date before they can add boost. Maybe the agreement between Toyota and Subaru is part of the reason for the high cost.
it definitely needs a few things but it can be pretty easily imo
and this one still has crappy stock tails /exhaust and ugly 13/14 antenna
What a reference!
I don’t know subaru powertrains that well but didn’t the BRZ come out before the turbo motor was direct injection? so the BRZ and the turbo lineup were 2 different engine families. Is there any truth to that? The BRZ has a fun amount of power you cant deny that. The only one I have been in was at mid ohio and the only mod was wheels and 245 R comp tires. I had a blast. Not surprisingly it was quite a bit faster than my W12 on track everywhere but straight line. The BRZ is a fun car that is reliable and not a miata. I see nothing wrong with it. rear drive stick LSD. The combo the almost always = fun for not that much money.
i will put money on them not ever releasing a turbo model, its not what the car is about.
its fine for a DD, its fine to drive in the winter( I do both) I enjoy telling people that the back seats are useless and that they cant ride in them.
it’s really the perfect sports car in a lot of ways for racing and track use… a few more years and this will be the hot amateur series to race in.
agreed, it helps that its going on 3 years and theres really only one version. should make things pretty competitive
LS swapped BRZ and im in.
