Toyota Halts Sales on 8 models

i didnt read your link… but i read on one of the links on yahoo that Fords use them, but none of their models were effected

They said on the news tonight that both Toyota and the pedal manufacturer agree that the pedal is NOT the only issue leading to the failures.

Most car companies us 2 or more suppliers just in case something goes wrong with quality. This is a prime example, they will probably have Denso working extra to help produce replacement pedals.

When I worked at Valeo as a co-op test engineer we were competing directly with Denso for GM windsheild wipers. We had a problem with one model and GM found out and we were given the chance to fix the problem if we did nothing we would have lost some of GM bussiness on the specific wiper system.

Just because a supplier makes pedals for a bunch of car companies does not mean that they are all going to fail, they are all different designs… for example we had Ford, Mistubishi, GM (Caddy, chevy, pontiac, etc) they were all different design because of the requirements the car company gave us. Even the parts that were supplied to us came from different lower suppliers.

"Early Thursday, two people briefed on the company’s actions told The Wall Street Journal that Toyota is close to developing a repair for the sticking pedals.

Khilnani agreed with Toyota’s assessment that condensation from heaters caused increased friction in the gas pedal, making it stick in some cases.

The pedals used in Toyota vehicles aren’t shared by other auto makers, Khilnani said. Each auto maker creates their design and CTS builds to those specifications.

Even so, Ford Motor Co. (F) halted production in China of the diesel version of the Transit Classic because CTS supplies those gas pedals. A Ford spokesman said the pedals used in those vehicles are similar to ones used by Toyota. The auto maker wanted to make sure the vehicles have no potential problems." Link

Beck,

How can one tell if he has a CTS pedal?

buncha shit i can’t get around out there…

i was under the impression it was:

“The safety of our customers and employees is our utmost priority, and in that regard, the suspension should continue until the issues have been resolved,” the National Auto Auction Association said in a statement. Manheim, the nation’s largest auction company, said it is complying with the recommendation of NAAA and immediately halted sales of the recalled Toyota vehicles at its 81 auction sites in the United States and Canada and on its OVE.com electronic sales channel.

“We are committed to supporting Toyota during this challenging time,” Manheim, which controls roughly half the used-vehicle auction market in the United States, said in a statement.

Auction company ADESA Inc. said it, too, has halted sales of recalled vehicles. ADESA is the second-largest auction company in the United States, with approximately one-fifth of the market.

Today, used-car retailer CarMax Inc. said it was suspending sales of new and used Toyota vehicles included in the recall.

In a statement, CarMax said it is “following Toyota’s instructions, and vehicles covered by the Jan. 21st recall will currently not be available for sale.” CarMax operates one franchise Toyota store in Laurel, Md., and sells used Toyotas at its 100 used-car locations.

The PR beating continues…

A House committee has begun investigating whether Toyota Motor Corp. and its top executives, as well as the Obama administration, responded adequately to customer complaints of sudden acceleration in Toyota vehicles.

Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., chairman of the House Energy Committee, today expressed dissatisfaction with responses given by Toyota representatives yesterday to committee staff.

He sent letters asking both Yoshimi Inaba, president of Toyota Motor North America, and David Strickland, head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, for extensive records dating back to 2000.

Toyota and NHTSA were told to supply the documents by Feb. 12.

While the meeting between the committee staff and Toyota “was helpful, it left important questions unanswered, including when Toyota learned about this serious safety defect and what actions the company took to investigate and resolve the hazard,” Waxman wrote to Inaba today

All I read in that article was blame Obama

Everyone else does it, why not. At least if it was GM they’d have a case.

I am sure Obama would claim the pedals were bad before he came into office and it would be unfair to assume he could fix them all in his first year of office.

I hear GM is offering $1000 incentive to Toyota owners that switch

edit:
my bad

I call BS, he won the Nobel prize for ending the war in the middle east in his first year of office.

the European recall also involves eight models: the Auris, Avensis, Aygo, Corolla, iQ, RAV4 Verso and Yaris. All told, about 1.8 million vehicles are involved.

Unlike in the U.S., Toyota Europe will not be suspending production of any models because replacement parts are already being used at its various assembly plants. What’s interesting to note is that some of those plants are located in Japan, specifically ones that build the Corolla and RAV4. Until now, the reason given for all Lexus and Scion models being excluded from the recall was that they were built exclusively in Toyota’s native country and used an accelerator pedal mechanism sourced from a different supplier, not CTS Corp. that manufactured the defective part for North American plants.

Whether or not this means the recall could be expanded even further, perhaps to include vehicles from other Toyota brands, remains to be seen, but the fact that the defective part in question has now popped up on the other side of the Atlantic suggests that the problem lies in its design and not how it was manufactured by the supplier.

hmm…

Can’t say I’ve ever experienced the throttle sticking. The Scion tC is manufactured in Japan and it’s built on the European Avensis chassis.

 you drive a $500 car.

Actually i drive two 3000$ cars
And i have 6000$ worth of shit. So i have 12000$ worth of “cars”
