You missed the other thread.
FGGT
I’m not going to get into an argument again over the internet with pompous faggots.
lolbro
Read your last post and judge who the “pompous faggot” is.
Im not bragging that i own a 3000$ car. Maybe you’re missing the point. Which was in the other thread, and then beck decided to view my posts (because i made 2 previous posts in this thread after the comment he quoted) So he could say i Own a 500$ car. and apparently im poor because i live in cheektowaga and go to college :gotme:
Don’t come into a fucking situation which died off anyways, if you don’t know what’s going on.
Can we get back to the toyota topic?
The fix
Is that seriously all theyre doing?
It just looks like it limits the range of the pedal. I dont see how this could fix ‘sticking’ pedals. Unless going WOT in a Toyota causes you to force the PPS past its rated travel, and it has no or a poor stop, causing some ‘friction’ as they call it. And to have the issue anyways, youd have to go WOT, likely with excessive force. I dont think the average person throws the pedal wide open very often, even if it is a torqueless Toyota.
Regardless, it looks like a poor fix that may marginally slow down the affected Toyotas even more.
more than 5 million cars effected… could be upwards of 7 million cars worldwide.
I gotta believe that the cost of warranty work is going to be $150 - $400 each for the part, transport, labour, etc. etc.
that’s anywhere from $750,000,000 to $2,800,000,000 just in direct costs not including the liability from the lawsuits from the dozens dead and thousands of other cases of accelration related accidents and issues…
plus then you have the loss of sales…
This is going to cost A LOT!!!
Even being conservative you gotta be over $2 Billion in the next 24 months… fuck
Last week alone shares in the automaker plunged by a jaw-dropping 14 percent. That’s a drop of $21 billion (with a B) in market value. The lion’s share of the losses are likely due to investors’ unease at how the the mounting recalls are playing out, but we suspect that part of the issue has to do with Toyota’s handling of the recalls to date.
It’s been real toyota…
Wasn’t the 911 call car that crashed and killed a family of 4 that started all of this a lexus?
That was due to “stacking” floormats. Whole different issue from the sticking pedals.
This is where I have a problem. The media is blowing this out of proportion. They are showing videos of burning ES350’s and flipped over 4Runners. Both of which have nothing to do with the recall.
Nobody has died from the “sticky” pedals.
Ah true.
Either way. Why do people suck so much that they can’t figure out how to handle that. Its not like it went 0-200MPH in 10 seconds. WTF is calling 911 supposed to do? Wasn’t that guy a CHP officer? Shouldn’t he be able to figure out how to put the car in neutral or shut the damn engine off?
911 call: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHGSWs4uJzY
While it might seem like a basic thing to us, these people didn’t know that they could put their car in neutral… :meh:
Simple automotive knowledge could have saved lives.
C&D just did a test of a few cars with “stuck accelerators” to see how long it would take to slow one down from freeway speed, using just the brakes. The Camry stopped only 6 or so feet longer than it did with the throttle closed.
Even a 500+ horse Roush Mustang was hauled down (although it took 900 feet).
You import guys finally see what domestic guys have known for years…it’s impossible to inject logic to keep things in perspective into a discussion of the general public about car quality. Now you can finally see what it’s like to argue with “I don’t care if the new models are winning best-in-class quality awards, I had a Chevy in the 80’s and it was a POS, domestics suck!”
Are you new to watching the news? How are you surprised? The media always blows everything out of proportion. Just like when they blew the GM tailgate recall way out of proportion.

I know I’d much rather my throttle stick than the cable snap on my tailgate
I could only imaging the service department nightmare with the tons of calls they are getting from people to get their car in asap or to give them a free loaner. I worked at Northtown Dodge during the infamous Caravan tailgate latch recall. Hours upon hours of nonstop calls from people wanting to bring in their car immediately and the shortage of parts for the 15 minute replacement.
Did Toyota have a service announcement saying, PUT YOUR FUCKING CAR IN NEUTRAL yet?
They could probably calm people down if they said putting the car in neutral stops the unintended acceleration. Or would bouncing off rev limiter for 30 seconds blow up a Toyota?
(And I guess you could call me a import guy, but ive hated Toyota for years)
Ok… so this helps with the sticking pedal… what about the un-comanded acceleration?
My mom has a '10 Camry and has had not only the pedal stick a few times; but the car actually accelerate when she wasn’t pressing the pedal!!!
Toyota argues that if there was a problem, the computer that manages the vehicle’s speed would detect a difference between the accelerator and throttle positions and cause the engine to reduce power. In their investigations, they claim that no such errors were detected by the computer.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is satisfied with Toyota’s explanation, although, worringly, they cite a lack of resources to investigate the matter any further.
If your moms Camry is accelerating without throttle input then she should take it to the dealer immediately. The NHTSA isn’t going to react until it gets more people coming forward with a problem.
