Year or two? WTF

If you run into a red one for sale by this brown guy, and there is no working PS and it doesn’t seem to want to go into third, pass on that car. It’s a rustbucket. It was 2 months ago that I saw it, but considering how shit it was, I doubt it’s sold yet.

Well… I used to want to get an mr2. Great cars, great great handling, lots of potential.

MK1 = light but… considering they are 20+ year old cars, you have to be a guy who WANTS to restore it. Lots of possibilities though… short wheel base, very fast in autox and the likes.

MK2 = very beatiful, avoid i believe 91, 92 or something like that been a long time since i looked into it. They had a crash and burn tendancy to snap oversteer.

Apparently toyota fixed that in 93+ i honestly cant remember what it was though been years since i was into them…

MR cars in general tend to snap its a totally different driving experience… its not for the average driver definetely… definetely not, but worthwhile if you know what you’re doing, more for advanced spirit drivers

The 3SGTE is an awesome engine too, but you won’t go beyond 300whp without serious work, so its not exactly a drag car although there’s been some insane 800hp (to the crank?) monsters out there.

Look up Jekyll and Hyde if the guy’s site still exists. A revered mr2 mk2.

There’s been v6 conversion and even a never to be finished northstar v8 conversion in the mk1s and some v6 in the mk2.

Pretty much anything 93+ is worthwhile… thus mk2, but the mk1 pretty much are rust buckets unless it was a collector.

oh yeah as a bonus with the mk1 being 20 years old or more, you are exempt from emissions and some inspection as i recall. Plus you can apply for historic/collector classic insurance hehe.

Worthwhile cars, if you want to spend time restoring/babying them…

It’s not for the faint hearted. If you want cheap thrills get something else, don’t ruin another mr2, you’ll probably kill yourself in an MR car especially one with power, but totally fun if you know what you’re doing. Just remember, it won’t be another car, it will be an adventure and a journey instead

I ended up from then on wanting to build a super 7, and then due to college and things like that, i ended up wanting and getting an s13 lol. So yeah…

He looks like he’s done his research so cut him some slack already Mark. He could be wrong he could be right, but he’s provided more to go on than any other post in here.

If you’re going to take his one post/opinion with a grain of salt then you minus well go into a used car dealer’s parking lot, close your eyes and randomly point at a car and say “I’ll take it!”

i had an aw11 (85-88 )

best winter car i ever owned

spacemanspiff makes his first post about a car that is not discused on this forum,
a ahmed shows up with this big explanation on this car just like that. am i the only one
who thinks these two are the same person?

on a side note, the v6 conversion is more common on the mk2 not the mk1.

peace

Keep in mind that it was his first post on a 240sx forum about a Toyota MR2.

I doubt it.

I second that, they kick ass in the snow!!

okay…Ahmen please stfu up. A MR2 is an excellent daily driver. Extremely reliable, weather its turbo, supercharged or NA. Both mike (spddmn) and myself can vouch for this.

(I realize to talk about MR2s on this forum is dumb but fck it I love em).

Now spaceguy, I PM’d you info.

Quick notes
SW20 (91+)
-Reliable
-3SGTE = amazing engine (200hp+ engine by Yamaha)
-Driving it won’t kill you
-Check body seals for leaks.
-N/A is alright but not as fun.
-Little margin to fix mistakes during track driving.
-You won’t die driving one because of snap oversteer, F anyone who tells you otherwise.
-Change if suspension/wheels/tires or even 94+ suspension can help you take away all the fun of snap oversteer.
-Pretty difficult to make a wide rims fit (front especially).

AW11
-Reliable
-More rust than a gang of S13’s and EG civics.
-Comes supercharged and N/A (4AGZE / 4AGE)
-Lots of fun
-Many engine swap options (including the 3SGTE)
-Not as prone to oversteer as the SW20.
-Seriously, they got rust issues like Micheal Jackson has a kid f’ing problem…its bad.
