What year and is it turbo or N/A?
There was already a thread on this. Sasha(turbo) owned one, his was very unreliable. I personally love MR2s thou and would get one first chance I got.
91 up, turbo

go for a 93+ if you can dude, bigger brakes, less snap oversteer, optional LSD and stronger syncros… sometimes its the litle thigns that count.
Don’t buy a car from “The Auto Place” no matter what… that was my first mistake.
Overall they are amazing cars I love them, I would probobly still have mine if I didnt have so many problems with it.
Did you have any engine issues though, Sasha?
The few 3SGTEs i have encountered have had problems, dunno if it was coincidence or not. One of the AWD Celicas i drove had 12 previous owners.
Yea on my car the rear passenger wheel would toe out 3-5 degrees when that wheel was under load (i.e. cornering left hard), the fuel pump would cut out at random times leaving me stranded on the side of the road, then it started missing when in boost. The brakes were insanely terrible, they faded after one corner at shannonville I believe they must have been canadian tire replacements or something. The syncros were toast when I got the car as well. The stock boost control system was messed up so sometimes she would hold 9psi and sometimes only 6psi.
I just got a heap, most MR2s, like most Toyotas (and Nissans) are great reliable cars.
i can understand going from an S14 Sr to an FD RX-7 but this doesnt make sense…
the S14 is a better “all-around” car than the MR-2
MR is deadly in bad weather, only 2 seats, more expensive to maintain and prolly insure as well.
less of an aftermarket
not as sexy looking - subjective i know
and your SR will be jsut as fast or faster for less…
if you are going to get rid of your car for an MR2 there is something wrong with you.
but again, FD RX-7 despite reliabiltiy issue is understandable.
they fine tuned that car year after year, with the best susp. (rear) goemetry achieved in 95, a good ride, not much else I can tell you.
I can recall reading a buyers guide to the MR2 in R/T, or C/D or something last year. you may find it online?
haha bing you’re silly.
MR2s are fine in the wet, just like any car you need to know its limits, it is as fast as a stock SR the biggest complaing with teh MR2 that I have is the intercooler heat soaks so fast, and there is really no good solution to that problem. Water-air or a bigger air/air in teh side there… even a top mount, everything heat soaks unlike good old huge front mounts on front engine cars.
Bing you bastard!
I’m not really looking at the car for something faster.
Just something different. I’ve had the s14 for aobut 6 years now.
Love it to death. FD is really nice-but expensive, mostly insurance.
insurance
-240sx-$157.month
-Mr2-$187.month
-Rx7-$350-$450.month (base/touring/R1)
I’m sellling the car to free up money and to put money down on somrthing else, something differnt, something just as nice.
Mr2 are relativly cheap and nice look’n, mid engine/rear wheel, nice combo.
Sasha
Which car do you prefer?
Thanks for the insight

MR2 = ghey
go with a nice old BMW,
E30 with E36 engine swap or something.
or get a RHD soarer
both would be cheaper and cooler than an MR2
your ghey

I prefer power steering and a car I can throw around corners and get sideways that is very forgiving, so I prefer the S14.
I have no idea why insurance is so much? I payed less on my MR2 than my S13 OR my S14. They did it strictly by year.
Maybe check out other insurance companies if your heart really desires an FD
yep. an MR2 is a bold way to say “Im not afraid to be decapitated by an eighteen wheeler”
nice cars though id love one. I fear the roads where i live would quickly finish its suspension to a mess of bent, cracked metal.
A bit off topic but, what insurance company you with and do u get online quotes?
I’m with state farm, the wifey takes care of that stuff, I just pay
Sasha,
What are somethings I should be looking for when purchasing an mr2, problem spots etc.
thanks guyz
