I recently had a chance to take the TRAC racing school in St Eustache QC and I must say it was pretty damn awesome. The weather was COLD and raining so it made track conditions pretty bad but it helped me learn alot during the course and get my race licence. I would recommend this school for anyone looking to go get into lapping or racing. It was pretty serious, we even had a ‘mock’ (nothing mock about it) race at the end with a starting grid.
Luckily my 240SX was in storage so I had to take my Accord which was supposed to have an H22A swap in time for this course but it didnt happen so I was forced to use the Accord as is and it actually surprised me completely. The car kept up with many higher hp cars (integra type Rs, subies). In the straights it did lack the umph but the 240 would have been a nightmare in those conditions.
I dont have many good pictures since the weather was shit but here are just a few.
Yeah that was a NEO members S13, it was really clean, although the conditions were so bad that he had to be really easy on the car. It was rough for anyone with RWD that weekend.
I dont know if you guys will allow this in the normal chat thread since its got pics but if you want to move it there then id like that. I want to give TRAC as much props as possible.
Yeah a couple guys from NEO were there, and they had mixed feelings on the whole event. They seem to be a bit farther advanced, so it was a bit on the “basic” side of things for them, and they said it was great for someone without a lot of track experience, but they raised some seemingly valid points about the instructors and a few other things.
I wouldnt really call it basic. They should have been in the advanced group then, they skipped the drills, and went straight to the track. That group had instructors that were real racers (CTCC, SPEED Challenge). A lot of people were there getting their race licences, to go racing in series like CTCC (what Sasha runs in).
While I agree some of the drills were basic but thats to build you up to go racing around the track (and famialize yourself with the track) with other cars around you. They simulate a real race with a starting grid and there are like 4-5 passing areas. Theres nothing basic about that. Its the closest you’ll get to a real race.
I’d love to hear more of their critiques though. I’ve got track experience as well and thought it was still a good learning tool still whether you are a novice or advanced driver.
