So basically the clutch has no pressure when it is depressed.
Master cylinder is brand new and the slave seemed to be in good shape as well. When I push down on the slave until it is compressed and then get somebody to push the clutch down there is pressure.
I checked the fork on the transmission and it has a lot of play (in, out, laterally). When at rest (clutch not being depressed) the slave cylinder is able to push it out to full extension with no problem.
I personally don’t think I have enough mechanical knowledge to do this myself so I’d like to buy all the parts first before going to somebody that does? Maybe some recommendations on a good place that would do this repair? (I’m on the South side, Riverbend). How long would this whole procedure take by somebody that knows what they are doing?
LOL you suppose? It’s busted right in half. That’s your problem right there.
You will have to pull the tranny to fix this, and you don’t need a hoist. Just 4 jack stands, get the car as high as you can, get under there and pull that bitch out. Make sure you have a good jack, and a friend or two to help out.
The tranny on a ka is the same as an sr. Bellhousing are different, and can be swapped.
Anyways back on topic.
That job is something you can do yourself. Just post up on here asking for help on a tranny job. Offer free beer and you’ll have this fixed in 2-3hours, for way less than any shop would ever charge. Trust me they charge bucket loads for anything that needs a tranny pulled out.
We have encountered this problem before. You dont need to drop the tranny, but still take it all apart, and just move it back enough to get your hand in there and replace the pivot ball.
We have those pivot balls in stock.
If you want, give Allen a call, and he can probably fix it for you this week.
Here’s his number -> 780-964-2341 (his name is JDMS13RHD on this forum.
i had a very similer problem… there is a clip that holds the fork to the release bearing, and it came off… i had to take the tranny out. but i used a bit of mechanics wire to hold it on a bit more solid… it has worked really well!
Just a few questions regarding dropping the transmission or getting it out of the way at least, as edmrx7 suggested.
I got the car up on ramps and I have prepped everything with liquid wrench. I called it quits yesterday when I got some in my eye.
-What tools do I need exactly to get at the top bolts on the bellhousing? I have a Mastercraft Premium socket kit with three sizes of ratchets and extensions (10" is the longest one I have in 1/2" drive)
-I have a utility lift for motorcycles and such for dropping the transmission. It basically a rectanular cradle you can adjust.
Basically I think I have the tools covered.
-Do I need to drop the downpipe and turbo elbow?
-With the harness unplug, what stuff should I be looking to disconnect?
I have looked at the FSM and I have taken a look at this writeup off Nico but they skip some of the details (for instance specifics on getting the bellhousing and wiring off). http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=168578
If someone isn’t busy maybe someone who knows what they are doing can come over and help me out if this shouldn’t take too long (not looking to replace clutch or flywheel, just the stuff to get the fork working).
Where you at? I have some time to kill tomorow. Hell I just got home from doing a WRX clutch job. shudder Nissan S-chassis is cake.
Downpipe needs to come out. Did you get the driveshaft out yet? How about the starter? Wires are pretty easy, unclip any of them that are in the tranny.
