ok, well, i have to get a transit permit for the fairlady z i’m grabbing from montreal so i can drive it back up north, but it’s not currently insured. anyone know if i can get one of these in quebec, with an ontario drivers license?
transit permit = temp permit?
if ur bringing it to ontario just get a temp permit here.
get insurance through belair
they have a 30day satisfaction or no charge cancellation thing…
cancel it when u get back…
thats wat i’d do.
If you have insurance there’s a 15 day period when you buy a car that you have to let the insurance company know.
But if you call and ask, then they waive the 15 day period and make you call right away because you told them.
So if you have a policy, just write down that number.
If you dont then let someone else chime in.
k, well my 240 is currently insured, so i could just put my plates on the 300 and drive it legally back home?
no… the temp permit is now a temp sticker.
You need to go to the ministry and set it up… with a bill of sale, etc.
So you need to buy new plates and buy a temp sticker… and just write in your policy number.
Or you can transfer plates from your 240 to the 300… and still pay for the temp sticker… and just write in your policy number. But then u cant legally drive ur 240 cause the plates dont belong to it anymore
Yes you can get these, Go to the ministry in quebec with the registered owner of the car with youre insurance information. You will be given a small peice of paper with a serial number on it , the vin , youre name ect.ect. which you affix to youre rear window its a 4 day temp export plate. The cost is 85$ plus taxes. I just brought an R33 in from montreal and I did this.
Insure it in Montreal if u can. Whole lot cheaper. U could use a mailbox & redirect to ur home.
Just rent a Uhaul trailer. I think its something like $80/day for a flat bed trailer with $10,000 insurance.
However, your screwed. When you go to the MTO and show the bill of sale and all that jazz, if the car is older then 19yrs, then you will need to have an appraisal in order to transferr the car to your name, which I think is b.s.
Depending on how well you are with talking/bargaining, they may issue you with an old school 10 day permit (the one that you stick in your window) and then once you have the car home, you will need to get it appraised in order to legally transferr ownership. Thats what happened to me when I had to get the S13 on the road.
And with you being insured, just make sure you write down your policy number, EVEN if your not insured anymore, just write it down and your good to go, they never check.
