On a 2003 Pontiac Grand AM GT Automatic, has 80,000 miles or so and transmission is slipping. had the trans flushed and found metal shavings in the fluid. Tranny still shifts into gears for now. Car has just been paid off and I would like to not have a payment for at least another year if not longer. At this stage, what kind of life expectancy can I expect?
Thinking about when the trans is too far gone then I will trade it on on a Dodge Charger R/T AWD. Brand new the original owner gets a lifetime warranty so that when its paid off I wouldnt have to worry about the tranny failing and that would be nice cuz it would be on dodge to replace it.
metal shavings is bearing material, probably working it’s way thru your valve body tearing up your already worn seals and causing internal leakage.
it’s impossible to know when it’ll go. if you didn’t have metal i’d say just add a shift kit and be done with it. you didn’t find any chunks of friction material did you?
