best bet is to rig up a bottom mount KA-T kit with an SR turbo… i can get you the manifolds, elbows, downpipes etc. then you just need an SR turbo and rig up some oil lines, SR injectors, SAFC… go…
Get a tuned ECU from EFI specialist or something, it has a timing map to retard timing under boost along with fuel map for your choice of injectors, so you don’t detonate and kill your piston ringlands. People who half ass KA-T’s and cheap out on tuning and thermal management are the ones who complain about blown KA’s. The tuned ECU route, although not nearly as good as AEM EMS (standalone), is still much better then SAFC, and it isn’t expensive either. If you have the balls, try nistune or calumRT.
Learn to read a compressor map, and do some research on ka-t.org. If you want budget turbo’s, you can often find a better match for a KA than the T25 for about the same price. For example the Garrett T3’s used on Volvos or on the 2.3L Ford turbo motors can often be found in junkyards.
Save up more than you think you’ll need, because you’ll need more than that lol.
Hope that helps. I’m in the same boat as you, just piecing the turbocharging kit together and researching constantly.
I’m having a slight change of plans, and I want to get a custom manifold made, but that’s $$$, and I’m broke lol. I’ll sell you my SSAC T3 topmount manifold (its stainless steel and equal length, with an external WG port) for really cheap, if you’re interested.
One note though, make sure you don’t have an ABS/Auto brake booster (the fatter one), because it most likely will not clear unless you have a turbo with an on-center housing. I don’t want to put spacers on my engine mounts just for the turbo to barely clear my brake master cylinder, and you shouldn’t either lol. Anyways pm me if you’re interested.
the t3 ford 2.3L motor turbo is tiny there is an old thread on here where a guy tried putting the thunderbird 2.3 in his car and the turbo was small i`d say just go t25/t28 pistons, injectors, fuel pump, all that stuff then gaskets, piston etc, and a safc and your set for a decent 200-250 reliable hp
and if you wanna compare engiens you really should search there are a half dozen threads that go in details about what motor is bet for what application
you can’t bump! …unless it’s been 7days from first post lmao.
add a clutch, you’ll need it otherwise your not going anywhere with a turbo’d KA and a stock clutch. Preferably stage 1 - 2, depending on your power orque goals
yeah i would suggest reading the rules of posting and bumping a thread and then use the SEARCH BUTTON on top right of page asthere are tonnes of these threads ALREADY
