yes the planetary gearset is part of the diff housing. in 1996 they upgraded from 4 planet gears to 5 planet gears and everything is insanely beefy but that diff will not fit inside my tranny housing and the 96+ tranny is a different belhousing pattern so I cannot change to it. This failure was caused by the failure of the sun gear bearing which sent metal in to the extremely tight tolerance of the planet gears and then cascaded into a big problem over a few thousand miles.
the RWD swap will not be a in a taurus chassie . It is going into a camaro.
weld it.
weld what? the spider gears? So my car can’t turn my front heavy pig and I sheer off my spider gears in the process. sounds like a great idea.
tranny # 6 was found dead at 10:32pm. A note was found nearby, in which the tranny describes the horrible pressure it was feeling to perform, and its feelings of inadequacy. It committed suicide by knocking the turbo SHO off its jackstands. It was instantly crushed.
no. the mustang is front sump so I would have to make a new oil pan and pickup tube. the engine dropped right into the camaro and the engine mounts are really close to lining up. + camaro’s are super cheap and I got one cheap that is really clean with no engine and T-tops.
So when are you going to get started on the Camaro? I’d like to see that completed, even though I still think it should go in a Mustang, Supra or Volvo instead.
currently waiting on the adapter plate. After that is ready i could be running in a month or two.
the camaro is the best choice. I check a bunch of different options and this is by far the easiest/most cost effective platforn + if the whole thing goes to hell I could have a LS1 dropped in it in a day.
I got to drive it tonight. I just kicked around some side streets but damn I miss my turbo car. I forgot how much power that car has compared to my stock 5 speed SHO.
