“Our record breaking Corvette was well on the way to raising the bar again when it left the track at over 230mph. The driver walked away and has been released from the hospital. The car rolled one time and landed back on the wheels. This a testament to following safety guidelines and building a safe car.”
Wrecks have been happening for quite some time man. Especially when you have a tire blowout at speed.
Street cars are making huge amounts of power pretty easily now a days though which can certainly be considered dangerous. Technology, suspension, and tires are just a few large impacts in being able to handle this new power.
Stock front suspension Nova II’s are a perfect example of cars becoming unsafe when more power is added to them. Sometimes the chassis/suspension just isn’t up to the task.
yeah, no doubt that wrecks are nothing new. It just seems like some shops are building massively powered cars and running them in the mile a bit carelessly. Well…maybe they’re not entirely careless. Seems like the safety equipment IS in fact there. I just hope that incidents like these stick with people who ARE (or may potentially be) more careless. I can just imagine some joe schmo with more money than brains hopping into his 1500+whp car and getting himself killed out there.
Yeah I think with some more research they could have avoided it. They ran on a MT Drag Radial tire and it is not designed to run at sustained speeds. The LMR Camaro this year(which is an even faster car) lost a tire as well and it was the same kind. Luckily they didn’t loose the car though. A few of the Porsche/Supra guys openly criticized them not using a proper tire for the event on a few various other boards. If you are going to build cars this fast you damn well better not overlook things as simple as tires.
I hear what your saying man. Like if you accidentally stumbled into a large amount of money then on mistake ordered a twin turbo Z06 with over 1500hp custom built to your specs, then mistakenly shipped it to Texas and drove way past your ability. Totally understandable.
It sucks but look into the salt flats, every genre of racing has it crashes. I’d say the lambo crash was way more careless then this. This was a total mechanical failure, the weather conditions were perfect and the car was safety check multiple times.
Though the tire failures were known so to say…It is their car they can do as they wish.
