fall will be my last semester and i only need 9 credits to graduate. full time is 12 credits. i need to be full time to get financial aid but i dont want to take 3 athletics courses or some other bullshit class thats going to make more work for me than is necessary during my last semester. would it work if i just register for 12 credits then drop a class on the 1st day of the semester?
Maybe. It could work, but it also might come back and bite you in the ass. I know from experience… one time UB asked for 8k back in previous student loans / financial aid they had given me ( they said i wasnt eligible AFTER they already paid for my summer and fall classes, and wanted it all back immediately ) although i know people who did what you are talking about and it worked out fine for them. just take a telecourse pass/fail and not give a fuck. it’s what i’d do.

no
what you can do is sign up for 12 credits an not go to one class at all then half way through the semster just withdraw from it
ok, next question. does full time/part time status affect private loans? if i have a loan from citibank or something, does it matter if im full or part time?
^no
no as long as ur enrolled in some type of school you will stay int he defferment period
ok, cause my UB financial aid is really pennies comapred to the whole tuituion bill. i finance most of school through private loans. i can give up my fafsa or whatever to not have to take a bullshit class.
the only thing dropping to part-time status will affect really is your health insurance, depending on your age. if you are under your parents insurance and are over 21 then they won’t cover you if you are part-time.
^ you have to be full-time to get health insurance under your parents.
ahhh. yeah thats stupid. i thought you meant health insurance through school. well, ill just drop a class on the first day, by the time the insurance company catches up ill with me ill probably have graduated already.
if you drop a class the first day financial aid will catch up an change you to part time status you need to withdraw sometime during the semester because they will catch you trust me ive seen alotta friends try that trick it doesnt work
^yeah i thought that too. they caught on real quick. ub hasn’t caught on though so i still have no health insurance. just a heads up.

yeah i just checked, my financial aid is only $250 a semester. not a huge deal, i can give that up to not have to take an extra class. i dont think UB is going to contact univera (im sure UB has no idea who i have my insurance with) to tell them im part time so i can prob get away with that for 1 semester.

LOL, you can get away with EVERYTHING at UB…
12 creds = full time the way to make it work with federal loans would be to resign the class, by that point you will be 100% liable for payment as full time.
9 creds = you will pay the prorated part time thing… but you will need private loans. If you are doing the private loans already, then why bother with being full time.
The only thing i can think of is to sway your choice is health insurance, IF its cheaper for you to be full time and have it then do so… If not then pay less with the 9 creds and private loans.
Although, I have gotten away with just about everything at UB, if you come up with a good plan, use it, they RARELY catch anything.
Your financial aid is only $250 a semester??!@?? Ouch. Are you from out of state? Dammmn I think my financial aide was 24k with grants, etc. I left college about 4k in my pocket from financial aid because it was about 1500/semester over the cost so I got a nice refund check.
I’d say do the 12/credits with a gym class or some bs class, never go to it, halfway through withdrawl without a mark on your record (theres a certain cutoff to do so) and that way you get free money still.
