i’m faily positive i’ll be doing this, and may be looking for a camera man if anybody’s interested in throwing in a few bones to grab my passenger seat
I tow with a 7 Passenger conversion van and am considering leaving in a passenger seat in the car for the first part of the day. So whoever wants to ride up, watch, and sit shotgun is more than welcome. I won’t turn down gas money either…
what about Bad Azz anyone alert him about this thread?
I don’t think we’ll allow unmounted cameras and passengers in inexperienced cars.
ill be there as long as its no more than 200bucs. Does anyone know what kinda safety gear is necessary??? maybe some links.
.
Joe and I are meeting this weekend to go over more of the specifics (safety, driver conduct, safety, track rules, safety, car prepartation, safety, driving scheduals ,ect, ect,). They will all be posted later on.
This is just my opinion, but added to the minimum safety gear should be a harness. Especially if you:
(a) don’t have a racing seat
(b) have leather seats
© bidy size is on the slim side
You will be sliding all over the place. You and your passenger (if you are allowed to take one). Some of us will need more than the average everyday seatbelt to keep us in one place. Plus having a decent harness means you are spending less time trying to keep yourself planted in the seat and more time concentrating on driving.
I would suggest people pick up some kind of 4 point or 3 point harness like the Schroth that you can use in conjunction with your rear seatbelt clips to provide better security in the seat.
Jeremy, let me know when you guys are meeting this weekend. I was talking to Joe, I have access to someone that has planned this kind of thing multiple times, I can get his notes, we can probably use some of his stuff.
Going the harness route is good and bad.
Good, because yes if mounted properly are better than a seat belt.
Bad, becuase they are less prone to stretching than normal seat belts thus resulting in greater neck injuries. Then we would have to require a neck restraint.
So that issue can go both ways.
I’ll PM you when we are meeting (Saturday) not sure what time, I’ll figure it out later this week.
I’m building it for drag racing y0!
But seriously, I don’t know if I’ll have what I need done to the car by then. I’ve built my car backwards from what I intended. Either way I think I’ll go to get vids.
And our Canadian friends are planning a similar trip to this same track over the summer. I don’t know if they’re doing the long course or not, but it will only cost $60-Canadian for that day.
ok i want to clearify right away i am not bitching about the price as i have come to realize that it is a great deal for what you get, but i did read this in the other forum by Joe:
~3500 is for 1.8KM on the weekends…It would be about 5,000 for the 3KM on a weekend
BUT
only
~3500 on A FRIDAY/weekday for the full 3KM…that’s monster savings to take a day off work…
and if we do it on a friday, it certainly wont mess with any Auto-x schedule…
if you’re planning on having about 30 people, and it’s on a friday where it’s only 3500…that’s under 150 a person…
are we getting some extra instruction or more time than is usually given for the price? i am just trying to do the math and see where the $250 figure came for…
again, i’ll gladly pay the $250, but i dont understand the math in how 3500/30 = 250…thanks
- we are counting on people backing out
- ambulance and medical crew is extra, we will have them there
- we may also get extra course workers to take care of flagging
- we are counting on people backing out
i’d love to go however i’ll be in school these dates … shitty i need serious seat time in the vette.
word thank you for clearing that up for me…
looks like i have a lot of EA backroad cruisin to do to prepare a bit for this lol…
Yeah, plus $1500 for insurance, plus medical crew, plus corner workers, plus tax, plus I’d like to have REAL instructors there, plus food, plus it’s an ESTIMATE…I’d rather shoot high and cut people a break than say “only $150” and have people flip when they have to pay more.
There is a reason we’re doing this on a friday and not a weekend. Because we can have the whole track for far less.
You would be better off auto-X a couple times. There is absolutely nothing that you can do on an open road that will preapre you for the track. I don’t care how fast you can take the XXX on ramp, it still isn’t the same.
Ill pay for the car if you pay for the deductible if we wreck it…
Ferrari 360 Modena Spyder - a grand to rent for a day
deductible - 8000.00 we dont wreck it = you drive for free.
Very interested. I may be out of the country during this time, I’ll finalize when I know for sure.
as for safety concerns…i dont think you guys should mandate things that are gunna make people back out. a helmet should be a must and im sure people who own em will be nice enough to share theirs with people who dont. i dont think people are gunna go out and buy a $200+ harness though for one open track day. what may be a better idea is getting a group buy on the CG lock seat belt tensioner locks. its only like $40 and they do a good job of holding you in your seat with the factory belts.
That’s not a bad idea. Anyone ever use those CG-locks before?
Hold on, nobody is MANDATING anything yet. Again a $200 harness is not safer than a standard seat belt when you consider that they are almost never installed properly (for street applications).
As far as sharing helmets I’ll get a couple spares we have from SAE but the sole reason I bought my own helmet is that it will only have one person’s sweet in it. Spending $185 on a SA 2005 helmet is a cheap investment considering it is good for 11 years.
Besides there is a difference between having a harness, locking mechanism, whatever for safety vs. comfort. Yes, you should be comfortable, but you should also know the risks of using different products as well.
The best thing we can do is educate people on the proper use of harness and let them make their own decisions.
