ugh...i think we're getting a C4 Vette

i don’t know crap about vettes except i know i don’t really like any of them pre-C5 looks wise… so i really have no input

however, with that said all of the morans saying buy a C6 should just get punched in the dick. srsly.

The interior may be crap by modern standards, but if she likes it and the car is in excellent shape for a bit less why not. Some people just like the way the car looks and could care less how it drives, in the sense it’s probably been a long standing goal of hers from when she was younger.

Granted the price is high, and a later C4 would be a much better choice.

would be nice if it sold for that, reserve was much higher, buy it now was what 13,500?

I agree, but it sounds like she’s making an uneducated decision!

Price is high if they are really that good of friends, if she moves on the price great but dont let her buy it just because its a friends car. Go with her to look at/drive that one then look at others help her out and see what she wants. Vettes are a dime a dozen as everybody knows so bt no means should she settle on the first one!

We have an 87 Vette, 30,000 miles and no problems on it either. Its not the best looking vette made but I dont know why you guys hate on it that much. At least she isnt trying to get an 84…

its going to be ur moms car…as long as its in good shape let her but it…sure she may gun it once and a while but she doesnt need an 11 sec car

88 for 10k. No way.

KBB says the car is $7400 or so in excellent condition.

while we all know that KBB isn’t very useful, to the non-educated car buyer KBB is something to live and die by. now that i have a credible website to use to show her the car isn’t worth $10K, maybe i can get her away from this spur of the moment decision.

i’ll also print up a bunch of other C4’s for her to consider…since again, a C5 is NOT AN OPTION for only $10K…and if there are any C5s out there for $10K it’s probably high miles and beat to shit.

If you check autotrader, that price doesn’t seem bad at all. Lotsa clean C4’s 1986-1990 listed in the $1X,000 range with under 50k.

Thats not the point people are trying to make. What I see is a bunch of people warning about the quirks and concerns of the car in which she is looking.

:gotme:

only C4 I would think about driving is the ZR1

I bought my 87 for 8 grand, a steal i thought. Was a florida car and needed paint. Had it painted over the winter and it looked brand new after. Then i sold it to my mom for 8 again. She sported it for 2 years and my dad let it go to a friend of his fo 6500! To say the lest it was a nice car. But had issues. Magior issues on the old c4’s was the key chip, there is a sensor under the dash that reads the key, when it goes bad the car will not start for a good 20 min! They make a kit to fix this. But for almost the first year sometimes i was left stranded because of it! SUCKED! The digital temp controls are all garbage try to avoid them, The read outs die on them and the lights stop working, the dash in mine worked great, replaced all power window seat and mirror switches, replaced power seat motors, bose sound sys is a pita to work on, and a pita if you want an aftermarket cd player. The 87 had 3 cats on it. Never sounded good even with the corsa exhaust. engine runs hot all the time. Spark plug wires every year it seemed. Other then these problems it was a fun car to drive.
Also watch out drive it before u buy it, there known for smoke on start up (vale seals) nd the 700r4’s can go in them. Mine slipped, luckly it was a bad kickdown cable. The vale seals in mine were replaced also. I cant thin k of anything else that happend.

88s were nice, if you can get a later one for under 10k, that would be your best bet. Good for her to wanting to sport something nice.

Did a lot of research on c4s when my dad was looking for a vette. I would only consider purchasing an lt1 c4, and even then I feel they have to many down falls. Convinced my dad to eventually pick up a 2000. This is your mother though. If she wants a vette cuz she has always wanted one, this does not seem like that bad of a car. I think for the miles, as long as it’s in that good of condition, it is a fair price.

there are some nice c4’s floating around. Craigslist, and in the paper, dont spend more then 10 g’s on 1. There not worth that much. And tell your mom her hand will get tired from waving at every corvette owner to waves at you.
