car will retain the A/C, unlike most others that are built
Details? I wish I knew what I was looking at/expecting… Please inform the less fortunate non-knowers?
sho?
Turbo SHO.
Interested in this build…I’m assuming you’ll be heavily referencing the work you did with Alex’s car?
yes, even though its a manual ive decided to also place the turbo in the same location as alex’s car, but the hot pipes will have a revised design to better suit the available room, and there will be a number of improvements
-stainless piping on the exhaust side up to the cat back system
-rolled square tube (with fabricated transitions on the ends) front bumper reinforcement to act as the filter pipe
-subframe mods for clearance issues
-aluminium (or possibly ss) intercooler piping
-revised maf location
- splash gaurds for the turbo, something that never got completed on alex’s car
-the benefit of a mtx ecu, which is more compatible w/ the tweecer
may also design some better SFC’s for the shos, and ill probably piec together at H brace for the rear suspension while im at it
Dear SHO owner: I want your transmission that is all.
and before anyone asks:
yes, the vehicle ON the trailer weighs more then the vehicle TOWING the trailer, lol
haha really? Good luck with the build. Keep us updated. Nice color too btw
 I thought that tow setup looked a bit backwards.
HRK - is this you project? or someone elses car you’re working on?
yea, if you include the trailer theres probably a good 1000 pounds more behind the hitch then there is in front of it
this is a friends project, im totally slacking on the 240 build project
build will hopefully be done before the end of july, shouldnt be hard at all considering this is the second time around for me
to each his own, but thats what hobbies are for.
atleast u decided to post back in this thread lol.
i thought that’s what the “happening again” was
pm me how much this would cost to have you build up a really mild setup. not including cost of car.
has some dudes car ever been fully squared away?
can anybody tell what is wrong with that pic. the car looks confused…
oh wait it is the way it is supposed to be
should be a fun sleeper
due to the setup required on a SHO, a "mild’ setup is hardly cheaper then setup capable of frying the pistons. anyway you cut it the turbo has to be be at least somewhat remote mounted. your turbo options are in the fender well, where the airbox resides, just behind the Y pipe or STS style, all of which require a bunch of piping.
let me think about it a bit and get back to you. if you want to chat about the idea my aim is lowrollerchevy
squared away as in what ? yea it still kills transmissions, his car is probably in the top 3 of most powerful automatic taurus’s out there, so theres not exactly a huge demand for bullet proof ATX parts. every time his trans broke it was a different part, first he killed some overrun sprags, then clutch packs, then his differential.
im not usualy the kind of person that takes conventional “knowledge” and accepts it as fact, but conventional knowledge on the taurus ATX is that its just plain frail tranny, and i tend to agree. yes people have managed to build them to handle more power then they should, but its also not an easily repeatable process, it seams to instead be based partly on luck.
the top NITROUS axt sho, built by someone who has massive amounts of SHO knowledge, still eats trannys on a regular basis. that should say something right there.
as for the rest of the build, i know people have said their shit about it in the past, but i still stand by my original statements, the major turbo parts used to build it are quality items, the only real flaw in the design is the mild steel piping, and the fact that said piping has to be removed for the tranny repairs (unavoidable for any turbo sho that doesnt use a stock Y pipe)
due to teh fact that the car isnt a garage queen, bolts tend to rust, some of the downpipe bolts have to be extracted, one of the wastegate bolts has to be extracted also, however the cracking Y pipe no longer cracks, the flex pipe isnt dieing anymore, and i believe the leaks are mostly taken care of.
if i had my way, all the hot pipes would be rebuilt out of SS, and the design would be refined further, but thats alex’s decision and not mine.
as for the tune on the car, tweecer + atx sho = headaches. i bought a dataq system so we can eventually get the info we actually need to put a “proper” tune on the car, but the tune it has now isnt bad at all, and isnt causing any probs. it makes power, doesnt make to much heat, and allows the car to start w/o any major efforts
if theres anything im forgetting please feel free to ask.
Another highly modded 12 sec car
highly modded ? its got a turbo kit on it. and cams that were purchased for the camaro project but got put in the sho for the time being
god forbid a 3500+ pound car with a turbo kit and a dead cylinder pulls off a 12.79 in the 1/4
highly modded
