Does it matter if you already have a little rust in some areas of the underbody? Will this prevent those spots from rusting further?
I do the unlimited wash deal from Delta Sonic and usually am in there 3-4 times per week, doubt this stuff would hold up to the underbody washes… thoughts?
Gonna order a case of Fluid Film from Grainger wholesale and do it myself to both my cars. Fuck dealing with spraying it bulk.
Anyone have a shop in Rochester that does comparable work to Schmidt’s? I am thinking of doing the SS myself but I really don’t feel like getting covered in goop and I probably can’t do that great of a job with jack stands.
No and Yes. You can rustproof over rust…it slows the corrosion down.
I have taken my truck to Carwell for the last 3 years and I will go again this year. I have not ONCE washed my truck in the winter months since I have owned it. The truck had surface rust all over the frame because the PO did the same thing “You” are doing. Ever since I have taken it to carwell EVERY part I have put on the truck is still NEW looking. The brakes lines I replaced still have the green coating on them…I just looked this morning. Those are almost 4 years old.
Rustproof your Vehicle and save $$$ on washes. Then in the spring get a good Towel (Yes Towel) and some good car soap (Meguairs or Blue Coral, not Walmart brand Super Car Awesome Wash!!!) and get to cleaning. The first clean takes…maybe twice as long as a normal hand wash. Good coat of wax after and DONE.
Sure, your ride looks like shit in the winter with Brown dried-on…whatever it is. You see it on almost every Local Fed-EX truck in WNY because they all get Rust Proofed and a lot of them go to Carwell. Have you ever seen a Rusty Fed Ex Van? The local ones. You can tell the difference in the Winter which ones have been sprayed. They get that distinct “Snot streak” look.
You can wash it if you want. But, why waste your time and $$$? Leave it on. That is like putting a bandage on an open cut to protect it but then pulling the bandage off and then going dumpster diving. Carwell’s product inhibits rust by repelling mositure. Moisture attracts salt which corrodes your car. STOP PUTTING WATER ON YOUR CAR/TRUCK IN THE WINTER. Especially, going some where that blasts every inch of your vehicle and get moisture in places you cannot stop salt from getting to.
My dad bought a Dakota in 2008, brand new. It has < 50k miles on it now. But, in 2009 he went back to Dodge and bitched because the Chrome bumper had rusted through where the bumper bolts hold the bumper on. Dodge told him it was not a warranty item and he was bascially SOL. So he bought a new $900 bumper. 2 years later it happened again…Why? Because we washes that thing like 5 times a week in the winter.
Will it hold up to 100 underbody washes? Well, will your rusted POS hold up to it because you would rather wash it 4 times a week in the salt belt? Leave the Rustproof on there in the winter and get your “I need my balls washed 4 times a week” car washes in the Spring/Summer.
Hey, I don’t give a shit if no one listens. That just means I won’t have to wait in line very long when I get the rust proofing done and my Truck will be worth more when I sell it. I know I sound like a dick…it just frustrates me that not EVERYONE does this. I tell at least 30 people every year…“Oh, it costs, $120…that’s too much” …FUCK YOU.

Considering doing this myself, actually.
With Carwells, can they spray it on early and be alright for the entire winter?
My dad actually asked me about rustproofing his truck yesterday, he wants to do the ruststop treatment. I was reading this thread again for more feedback. Is this carwell treatment just underbody? From what Luke stated sounds like the coat the whole exterior.
Luke, stupid post. I’d rather wash my balls 4 times a week in the winter.
They say 14 month protection and start “Winter” applications in September. I usually wait until October.

So from the link it looks they coat all the exterior panels, so what does your car look like coated with this crap?
Luke you’ve sold me on Carwell. That’s exactly the information I was looking for and it makes sense. I also wasn’t sure when the right time to do it would be, but knowing October isn’t too early I’ll probably have it done before Halloween. I was debating between washing, rust proofing, or if a combination of the two would be possible or even the right thing to do when it came to protecting the car. Both cars I have are in very good shape with minimal rust underneath, so this would be the best route to go. Thanks for your input.
Just take you car there when you are ready. They ‘wash’ it before the application so you don’t even need to clean the car before you go. Hell I went one year with snow in my bed. I called and asked and they said they “get trucks with even Mud on them all the time … just bring it in”. They cleaned it all out. It really is great stuff. You can get a spray bottle there for ~$10 for your Lawn mower, Snow Blower, Tools, etc… I picked up a bottle and use it all the time.
Their customer service is awesome too.
Blurry is the best way to describe the finish…not quite orange peel but you can tell it is on the finish. It does not affect your Windows at all.
Bump, just had mine and the wife’s cars done there. Took an hour and a half for both, very quick. If anyone’s considering this, better call soon. They are booked through November 27th as of right now.
Whats the cost of carwell? Don’t see it on the website.
This (or a similar) company does all of the ambulances at my company. It definitely works-- we have ambulances with 600,000 miles on them and they aren’t rotted out (the are on the road 24/7/365). The only thing I dont like is drilling holes for inside the doors and stuff.
For my two cars it was just under $100 each after tax. I didn’t even check for what drilling they did, but they are so small and they plug them anyways. I don’t think there’s much to worry about, most people probably wouldn’t even notice.
Fluid Film is excellent. I use it at the shop for various applications and rust protection. Grainger locally sells gallons and 5 gals., Nu-Way Auto, and NAPA stores. I imagine a gallon and cheap HF spray gun would make easy work out of the under carriage
My dad swears by the carwell stuff. His 9 year old f150 still looked perfect when he traded it in.
had carwell do mine last thursday, was 104$ for a fullsize truck. midsize truck/minivans are 99 and cars are 94.
i was worried about the fact that it was raining that day and the couple days after, they claim it doesnt matter that it was raining. im trying to figure out how its any different from how they dont want you going through a car wash for 7-10 days after. im gonna look under my truck tomorrow since its supposed to be a “dry day” and see how much of the shit isnt there cuz im worried now that it wont be as good as it should be.
I’m going to spray-bomb undercoat the SS tomorrow. I haven’t heard of anything like this in rochester
I’m glad I got mine done when I did, the salt trucks in Syracuse were everywhere tonight coating the roads
