the other night i got pulled over on the 90 for not using my turn signal. the state trooper told me to plead not guilty and it would get reduced to a parking ticket and have to go to a class but its difficult to get off work. so my question if i plead guilty whats gonna happen to me or if i plead not guilty and have to take a class how many days of classes would i have to go to
thanks for any help im not used to getting tickets
what town was it? not every place makes you go to driving school. and def not for something so minor.
the class is usually on saturday mornings…6 hours i think…if u plead guilty…prolly 2 points on ur license and a fine
Definitely do not plead guilty. ANy points that you might get on your license are going to cost you in insurance premiums. From what I gather most towns will just turn it into a couple parking tickets.
yea evertime i got points of my license my insurance went down at renewal time lol
It’s 2 points and was $144 last time I had one.
Unsafe lane change is 3 points (according to http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/dmanual/chapter02-manual.htm). You do not want to plead guilty. You want to go to court. Typically they will give you a plea bargain ahead of time. If it has school, ask for a bargain without school. I know, however, that some courts (grand island, for example) requires school for ANY moving violation. The fine is 80 dollars, with an 85 dollar surcharge.
The fine and insurance increase will cost you 5x what you will ultimately pay if you plead not guilty. If you accrue 3 points more in the next 3 years you will be forced to pay another 450 dollars for something called the DRA, which is just money generation for the state.
it was in west seneca and i guess ill have to ask for some time off and thanks for the info guys
how do you change lanes in front of an officer on the 90, without using a signal?
good luck.
how hard is it to use a turn signal anyway…

Agreed. I’m sitting on my high horse right here, but that is the total definition of being unaware of your surroundings.
i was unaware and he was in the slow lane about ten cars back and it was at night with some traffic
