Does anyone know what this is about? It sounds like you have to update your contract, but it’s done through Amazon, and I guess I don’t completely understand how it works.

In my continued search to find the best websites to save you time and money, I’ve come across a great new addition to the wireless world that just re-launched.
When most people want to upgrade their cell phones they usually head over to their wireless provider’s website… or to a retail store/kiosk… but Amazon wants to change all that.
This new Amazon-Wireless venture allows you to upgrade to a new smart phone starting with prices that will run you a penny. You can also enter into new contracts for that one cent price.
No this Ways 2 Save does not apply to everyone out there!
You will find there are a range of phones on the site, and some cost much more than a penny but it’s certainly worth a look. Please keep in mind the Penny upgrade is readily available for new subscribers. For current subscribers, the penny offer depends on your provider, current contract, the last time you upgraded and your current plan.
What are the pluses? The site offers phones already pre-programmed to work with your wireless provider. It’s a mostly seamless process to upgrade and access your cell phone account or enter into a new contract, and the prices are some of the best ones out there. Other perks: free shipping, and you don’t have to worry about compatibility with your existing carrier.
The negatives? Right now the site only works for Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile subscribers. I’ve heard that a Sprint deal may be in the works. Other negatives: phone contract fine print to read carefully before you make a purchase.
This morning about 70% of the WNY viewers I talked to were able to upgrade for a penny. I have unfortunately not spoken to any T-Mobile subscribers yet.
But as I say with any upgrade offer, it doesn’t hurt to check so…
