BEIJING - When the best job Mikala Reasbeck could find after college in Boston was counting pills part-time in a drugstore for $7 an hour, she took the drastic step of jumping on a plane to Beijing in February to look for work.
She makes 14,000 to 16,000 yuan ($2,000 to $2,300) a month.
:uhh:
There is no chance in hell I would move to china for a $15/hr job. Either this type of thing is more isolated than the story would like use to think or I have seriously underestimated how bad the job market really is.
It’s all about cost of living…same reason I’d take $80k in buffalo over $180k in NYC. She probably has a similar lifestyle to someone here making 50 or 60, other than the whole all-powerful communist regime thing…
Umm,has it occured to you some people just want a more adventurous life, I’d do the same thing, actually waiting to hear back for a job working in Bali.
i would so do this, my gf is fluent in spanish and teaches english in palma. Her friend works for parliament and has guaranteed me a job with room and board and 300-500 euros a month. Obviously the standard of living would not be as great but i fell in love with the place the second i stepped off the plane there. I wouldnt need a car, no bills (they give you room and board in a one bedroom appt.). Im seriously considering it, i dont know if i have the balls to pick up and leave though.
FYI - I know a Chinese products importer who has employees in China making $4.00/hour that have maids, butlers, etc. $15.00/hour there is absolutely huge money.
