hey son240
i have a question reagarding used car dealership
i’m from vancouver but i live in the gta now so i’m new to the auto scene
i’m searching for a s14 240sx, i came across this used dealership called “COLISEUM AUTO SALES”
are they trustworthy? are they sketchy? do they sell write-off cars and rebuild it? it’s just that in vancouver, people usually avoid used dealership and just deal with private sales or certified used vehicles.
I hope someone will be able to shed some light on my question…!
anyways, thanks son240
p.s. MODS, feel free to move my post to approporiate place if it doesn’t belong here. i didn’t know where else to post…! thnx
I’ve been there couple of times, and all I can say is that they are sketchy as hell… I personally wouldn’t trust anyone there…
edit: Maybe I should explain what I have experienced when I was there. I wanted to buy a 95 240 that had about 150k on it for 8k. The guy claimed the car had a clean record and it’s running fine. It came with an e-test + safety cert… What I saw was a car that was blowing white smoke out of the exhaust (head gasket maybe?) and 2 places where the car was badly damaged. They did a crappy job of trying to cover it up, cuz the paint didn’t even match properly and there were weld spots from inside the trunk…
That car was in at least one serious accident… how in the world is that a clear title? LOL…
Like I said, shady place… on top of that, they have their own mechanic that does all the ‘safety’ certifications and e-tests. Also, they have a body shot in the back … makes you wonder what kinda cars they really sell.
But for some reason, they have plenty of 240’s there… there’s always a few. I guess you at least go there and take a look if nothing else. Just be cautious…
I bought my car there. Good guy, honest, did everything by the book (which is both bad and good, but im glad i know my car is legit), and i got a good deal on my car considering the super hype for them lately.
I also bought my car from there. Its a decent place. The car was beatup but I expected that for the price I paid. Their prices are cheaper for a reason.
I’m not a huge fan of small time used car dealers. Your only real defense is to be educated and know what you’re looking for…if you’re not then have a mechanic inspect anything you’re considering buying Good luck.
There are many shady dealerships in Toronto. To protect your self the best thing to do is look up the dealership with OMVIC (Ontario Motor Vehicle Idustry Council) www.omvic.on.ca/ and make sure they are a registerd member and also check with UCDA (Used Car Dealer Association) www.ucda.org These are the only two agencies that will protect you against fraud and help you in the event that there is a dispute between you and the dealer or if they try to rip you off in any way. Do a back round check on the car first before you buy it don’t leave a deposit unless you are sure you are ready to make the purchase. There is no cool off period in Ontario the minute you sign a contract and you put a deposit it on the car even if it’s only $1.00 it has legally became a legal binding contract and you can not back out of the contract, if you do the dealer can keep your deposit and even come after you for liquidated damages. Im the sales manager at Prestige Motors. www.prestigemotors.ca
BBB is a scam. A place can have the worst reputation, the minute that place buys a membership at BBB they have a golden record. Or if one of their members gets a bad rep, their rep could be fixed depending on how much they are willing to contribute to the BBB. …They got busted that’s why they don’t exist in Toronto anymore.
The first car I bought was from Coliseum. This was back before I really knew anything about cars at all, let alone 240’s. Anyway, they made me pay over $6000 for the most rotten-framed 240 ever. 4 holes, driver’s side frame rail was caving in and chipping apart, previously bondo’d together. Aside from that the car was mint, but fuck was it ever bad underneath. Floor was rusted through, and poorly covered up by a piece of sheet metal bolted on in 4 places. (mind you, i know it was my fault for not checking the car thoroughly enough… but the asking price was a ripoff in the first place)
Guy I dealt with was nice, but I agree that they’re a shady dealership. They don’t let you in on too many details at all…
