Hey guys, well I had a very bad experience with this used car dealer. It’s called THE AUTO PLACE and it’s located on 4610 Dufferin Street, Unit # 13-14B, North York ON in the Dufferin & Finch area. Telephone # is 416-661-1666.
Well here’s what happened…
I had my 240 delivered to me and the next day my car would not start. (he claimed the battery was brand new but it was clearly old and used)
The car was not saftied properly at all, he was told by the mechanic that he needed 4 lug nuts replaced but instead he just got 4 different kinds and screwed it on himself… which made my car end up with 4 cross-threaded lug nuts and my studs were screwed up as well.
It cost me about $120 in the end to get everything fixed and he did not want to pay for it. But finally he said that he would only pay for the parts and not labour. But that was only $35.
Well anyways, they have a 240 for sale there as well as a 300zx and if any of you are looking to buy a car from them, either get your own mechanic to inspect the car after they have “safetied” the car, or just avoid going to this used car dealer!
If any of you know of any other bad used car dealers, please do not hesitate to tell us who they are.
if you think its a bum safety or something is shotty about the deal you got , all you have to do is call the ministry, and tell them tht you got a shotty inspection (from what you have seen ) and the will tkae the car ansd do a seftly inspection on the car, they will then call the place that selftied the vehicle and tell them what is wrong and make the shop pay for the repairs (regardless of cost) and then give you back the car with a proper saftey.
Ive seen this happen first hand with a friend of mines car, and the shop eneded up losing there minstry liscence, and my buddy got almost $2000 of work done on his car which was sold as saftied. Its something i would look into if you feel that you got ripped off
hey, the problem was that I could not afford insurance so I kept the car in my garage for about a month, and I found the problem out when I started driving it and the safety had expired :(… so I don’t know what I could have done.
Hey, you said go to the “Ministry”, which ministry would I have to go to exactly? Thanks
Join the club. The Auto Place is the biggest bunch of con artists ever. Ask
Sasha about his MR2… It was funny when we went back to yell at the guy.
The place I bought my car from also did a fake safety, so I went to the
shop that had actually done the safety (NuSpeed Auto) and told them I
had it inspected by my own mechanic and he said the following must be
fixed to pass safety.
I told them they were going to use brand new OEM parts or I would pursue
the issue with the ministry. When you threaten them with the ministry they
know you’re serious. Anyways to make a long story short, I brand new
OEM suspension arms, bushings and ball joints. Plus they had to buy me
brand new tires because the ones on it were camber worn past the sway
bar.
farmer the same thing happened to my buddy. he bought an '01 Acura CL which ended up having 2 dead ball-joints, dead brakes, and a couple of other things.
this was discovered after my friend braked coming into a driveway, and slammed into a stone wall. it only damaged the bumper skin, but once we got it up on the hoist we realized all that was wrong with it and got the ministry involved. he got his repairs for free, i’m not sure what happened to the shop.
that’s just terrible… I would have gotten real mad if that happened to me…
fortunately, I had a pretty good experience with the dealer I got my car from. I asked the dealer to give me a list of all the parts that he would replace in order to get the car certified. Then I took the car to my mechanic for an inspection. Basically he confirmed that those were the parts that needed to be replaced. I just left it there so my mechanic could do the certification and emissions test.
I bought the car from the dealer “as-is” cuz I wanted some other parts replaced as well and made the dealer lower the price by about 700 bucks cuz of that…
maybe, that would have been a better approach, if you had a trustworthy mechanic…
btw, I bought my car from Leading Edge Motor Cars Inc. (www.lemc.ca)
Also, I did check out the red 1995 240sx that was being sold by “Coliseum Auto Sales”. Those guys seemed really shady… he was asking 8k for a car that was in 2 (or more) accidents and the engine was buring oil like crazy… of course he claimed that the car was perfectly fine… imo, AVOID that place… they have couple 300zx’s for sale and that 240sx…
It’s still not too late ever now if you want to file a claim. You are guarateed the money even if the dealership refuses… read the OMVIC site, so I dont have to explain it all There is a fund they have to pay into for this sort of thing.
that could be a problem for him to do that… what if it’s not going to get fixed by the dealer… then the MTO might hammer the car still and make him pay for the fix…
and he might get in trouble for knowing about the car being a “fixed” and still drive it
Well, I bought the car on November 18, 2004 and I started driving it on december 28 I think. I found out about the problem sometime during late january. So it has been about 2 months plus since I bouhgt the car. The guy at the dealership was like “even if you want to sue me, you won’t win because the safety has already expired.” lol
i got my car from a man who worked at a toyota dealership, he had a mechanic there safety it. i remember driving it home (literally a 1min drive) and hearing this clunk every time i turn
turned out the strut bearing was completely gone, i put a downpayment on a car and between the two weeks i didnt have it, it gained about 3,000km and came back with no strut bearing :x
