There’s a few things about this that will work in your favor.
We have what, 3 members who have fought this place and won already.
I’m sure the ministry has a big old file folder with The Auto Place written on it.
Whether the safety has expired or not, is kind of irrelevant. They issued a safety on a car that wasn’t up to code. If the state of the car is obvious (ie no way it could have “happened on its own” in 2 months time) they can’t deny you.
The ministry would have revoked the safety anyway, so whether it’s expired or not is irrelevant.
The problem I have with all of this …
3 complaints, 3 victories, yet this company is still allowed to operate?
If you’re really pissed, try and search the net for other complainants for this place.
Selling unfit vehicles is horribly dangerous. Sure, you or I might know enough to pile a car with no brakes into a retaining wall or something else. But imagine completely clueless people driving off the lot, thinking their car is safe. They could (and might have already) kill someone.
I think there’s even a ministry hotline to rat out e-test and safety dodgers. Basically if a mechanic offers you a safety or an e-test in exchange for $$$. I’ll see if I can dig it up.
OMG! I read this thread and was like haha im gonna post and say THE AUTO PLACE SUCKS TOO! But it IS the Auto Place! OMG dude i SWEAR TO GOD I HATE THESE GUYS sooo much… the shit that happened with me was just unacceptable. Let’s get them closed down once and for all big guy. I’m so down for that.
I almost bought a 240sx from them. The car seemed to have it all; skirts, low miles, “clean” etc. I saw the incredible rust underneath and asked my girlfriend what she thought of the holes in and around the muffler of a “certified” car. She’s like, “What! Baby, don’t buy this one! We’ll find another one hugs & kisses.”
A similar experience with yet another 240 there ensued. A good friend of mine was calling him out on all kinds of things, he was nervous. We spotted cracks in the windshield that were blended to look like removable wiper marks! When we asked to lift the hatch and look at the spare tire well, it was the same thing, and you can guess why. Plus, it just never “felt” right, and they were definitely over-priced for what they were. The guy there really seems nice, too, funny enough.
They’d probably be very easy to shut down if they continue their ill practices and the ministry becomes involved.
