Usenet/Newsgroups

I’ve seen it max out a 50 meg down fios connection.

It will peg my little 15meg down connection for as long as it takes. I queued a ton of HD movies and xbox games once and it pegged my connection for over 24 hours. Surprised my TW modem didn’t catch on fire.

it is just a faster/safer way to download pirated shit

the $15/month pays for itself between all the HBO and Showtime stuff that I download. Not to mention the 80+ gigs of High-Def movies I downloaded last week.

Early last week I queued up 80+ gigs…lol…took a few days

Gotcha, so its still illegal but you are paying for the the download speeds. I’m at work which is why I can’t click these links and read up on them but do I need multiple programs or just pay this fee, hop on the site, and download at will?

when you get home, read the links and everything will be explained

Its funny how its safer and faster and been around since the beginning of the internet

I just wish there was a way to dial it back sometimes since I have a VoIP phone at the house. Instead of using 15 meg down, use 14 so I could still make a phone call. Normally what I do is just schedule my stuff to download while we’re at work or sleeping.

Haha ya I know. RIAA/MPAA focuses on easier ways. Only recently usenet.com was hit with a lawsuit.

Use Newsleecher as the client. You can throttle it to use only a percentage of your max or set it specifically to use a fixed amount of bandwidth. I use this during the day with a scheduler so I can max it at night when no one is on and then throttle it back during the day so people can use the internet.

Does your router do QoS?

Pretty newbie question for you.

No QoS in the internet tho. Your down stream from the internet wont know if its part of the voice convo and the download.

Very limited. RTP300 from Vonage. It was a QoS for voice but it doesn’t seem to work well at all.

I have QoS working that limits traffic on my router for http traffic or port ranges.

PAR files FTW. They seem to have fixed all of the partial file issues I was having. For some reason WinRAR didn’t like joining .001 .002 etc. files.

Newsdemon was rated very high on the host comparisons, in the top 5 on almost all of them. However I found out that all of my errors were coming from one particular small newsgroup that they don’t have. Signed up for the 5GB free trial of UseNext just to get stuff from that one group, and win.

it pegs my 50 meg connection
