V1 radar VS escort pasport review

My 05 audi A8 came with a integrated escort radar system. I have driven with a V1 for years so I am very well adjusted for what is legit and what is false hits. I noticed that the escort was VERY different to ride with. After 1500 miles or so of flying around the streets of Buffalo and some… “spirited” drives in Ohio (highway 11 is very flat and so straight) I decided to install the V1 in the A8 and run both radars to compare how they operate. The escort is a joke and it scares me to know that I was relying on it to keep me out of hot water. It is a useless piece of shit. Its K and KA warnings give you ZERO notice but the laser does pick up about half a second earlier than the V1 but also has more false laser alerts than the V1. It is very rare that the V1 gives a false laser alert.

Except for some newer infinitis coming at you and when your behind a trial blazer

Good review

I’ve done the passport / v1 comparison several times myself and find them to be quite comparable. I have no idea what happened with yours. I run a passport x50 and have never had a problem except with some finicky laser false alarms now that’s it’s over 6 years old (when my defroster hits it at full blast in the morning, windows rolling down only in my wrx, intercooler spray in my STi, airports, etc).

i have a v1, however i have driven using the escort as well.

i much prefer the v1 for the fact that i have an idea of direction and distance with it compared to the escort.

Iv used the escort 8500,9500,and some model interested into a buddy’s truck. Ill have the V1 anyday over all 3 escorts.

The only thing I do not like about my escort is not knowing where the radar is coming from but after driving with it for awhile you get an idea. But I would rather have that any day then hearing a V1 give false alerts all the damn time. Thing drove me insane. The 9500 only goes off when it has to (remembers false alerts by GPS) and with the new Live App its awesome on the thruway. Getting warned about police and speed traps before you get to them is awesome!

i might have to switch over to V1s some day. Ive slowly worked up from 8500s to having a 9500xis in both of my cars and both give me a huge amount of time to slow down, even my 8500 x50s did a really good job. I always thought the only major difference was the arrows

I love my passport 8500 but I’m a little biased. Ive never used a V1 and I used to have a shitty 50 dollar viper. would like to try one

i liked my v1 a lot. regret selling it but i didn’t really need it anymore. the features on the 9500 seem nice though. might have to give it a try. i need one either way
