venting to atomsphere on sr20

I’m not new to modding 4 cyl turbos, but I completely new to sr20det’s. I understand the intake air is metered before the turbo, meaning if you are venting your bov to atmosphere rather than re-circ’ing, your ECU doesn’t know about it, and acts as if that air was still the system, resulting in a rich mixture after every throttle let-off… .ie loss of performance after each shift.

Can someone shed some light on this, as I know a bunch of sr20 guys who vent with a draw-through setup rather than blow-through, which I would think would hinder performance.

That is true of MAF and VTA bov’s on SR20’s… Cuz the ecu calculates all the air that passes by the MAF and the bov let’s some of it out, you will stall or run rich.

To fix this, if you run FMIC, you shouold relocate your MAF on the cold pipe or somewhere after the bov.

I know that you can prog your ecu as well or run some sort of piggyback system too.

Most people don’t have too much of a problem running VTA BOV’s. Just do some “heel-toe” action when you come to a stop.

That’s what I thought, thanks. I’ll just re-circ.
