There is a group of son-lings here in K-W, and well our more prominent local car club is VitalMotion, a non-descriminatory car club with all types of members, ie: show and go. I usually attend out of humour reasons than anything else.
Last night, (as I’ve read) they got a surprise, in the form of Ministry of the Environment (MOE), Ministry of Transportation(MTO), and Waterloo Regional Police Service(WRPS), attending they’re meet to stage a “Safety Blitz”. Basically it was profiling, and systematic discrimination, but ‘he who has the gold makes the rules’ (ie: Government).
Basically, I didn’t attend but thought it interesting enough to bring up in Son-Chat.
To all those coming up to darknights… watch out for the police. I hear this year it will be worse than the last importfest. Once again, if you can come from the north, it may save you some trouble. I’m sure we’ll have a thread like that going monday…
The meet was on private property but the patrols were staking out the streets around it and taking the ‘victims’ to the MTO garage (I think) down the street.
Saw a couple cars on tow trucks leaving too…
the problem with VM is they think by doing charitible things the cops will elave them alone…FACE it, you drive an import, you’ve been branded as a street racer…you’re going t get a ticket.
it also doesn’t help that VM while trying to be super nice, has or had…i’ve been banned for some time, a seceret street racing forum, that i’m sure the cops knew about.
Bottom line, if you want to make it stop, Everyone is going to have to write letter and fight back…
Harrassing me, you, or anyther perosn becasue of the cars we drive, is no differnt then harassin a black person, or any race…You want it to stop, then stop complaining and do something about it.
You guys are funny, you think that if the car is on private property it makes a difference.
If the car is no legal to be on the road, and it’s sitting in a parking lot, you had to get there somehow. They CAN and WILL check your car in a parking lot, and tow it if they have to. Unless you have your trailer sitting RIGHT THERE, there is no point in trying to persuade the police not to check your car.
They can check it, and it’s best to let them… but after the fact, everything will get dropped… just because the car is on private property that isnt that of the owner… doesn’t mean they have grounds to make the assumption that you got it there legally. “justice is blind” for all they know you could have CAA drop you off and CAA tow you home.
They can search the car all the want on private property, they can tow it, they can impound you, they can do anything they want… but whether it holds up in court is another story. And I can almost personally guarantee none of the charges layed that night will stick in court. It’s just a lame excuse for POINTTS and X-COPPER to rake in the cash.
Exactly. I haven’t been hassled YET, and I’m on the wrong side of the goddam car… why don’t I get hassled? Well two reasons really, I don’t give them a reason to (I have some tire gap, my car isn’t annoyingly loud, and I drive normally), and I live in Durham Region (cool cops out here… they respect us and we respect them back)
I’m with Gonad on this one. Except for the fact that he gets pulled over a lot
No, but honestly, I’ve only been pulled over once, and that’s when I was using my celica as a cargo van. I had 3 big leather chairs stuffed in it, and some of them were blocking my view of the road, and my hatch was mostly open and stuff was being held in with rope. Unless you’re doing something stupid, or have a bright yellow car (my best friend gets a silly amount of tickets for that stupidity), cops will tend to leave you alone.
