Lately I’ve been considering another platform for a car and something else to get into.
Hondas’ have been reliable for me over the past 12yrs or so, so it’s hard to leave but their new lineup leaves me liking NOTHING and the directiong their going, everything looks like a Camry.
I’m also tired of the type of crowd that they seem to attract now, these 20 yr old Hondas’ attracting 17yr old ricer emo kids only getting into it because it “seems cool” and wanting to make their “HonduH the fastest thing on the street”.
Also with an addition to the family, older Honda coupes and two seaters are not practical.
With that, I’ve been looking at Volvos’, the 1st gen V70 wagons and possibly the 850 sedans have attracted me. Plus here in Ithaca, there is a homegrown performance parts maker, http://www.snabb.us/, making it that much more attractive.
Are there any Volvo enthusiasts here that can direct me to a knowledgeable and informative forum, wanting to learn more about them before I dive in?
The only volvo that interest me personalty is the s60R and the S80 with the V8 (it sounds so amazing) after market for both cars is pretty weak. In fact there is nothing for the V8 worth talking about other than how cool it sounds. I like what they have done with the C30 but the front wheel drive is a complete turn off for me at this point + it is probably too small for what you are looking to do if you are considering the cars you listed.
If you are not against them I would encourage you to look at BMW/audi instead. They are about the same money and you get a much nicer car. I am assuming you are looking at volvo because you can do some light modding to them to make them fun and are after their safety. You are clearly not after style or prestige lol
I’m not looking for huge power potential, not looking for an 8 cylinder and I don’t like the lines of that gen BMW nor am I interested in Audi.
Looking at Volvo for their safety record, the wagon for the cargo space, a turbo wagon would be fun (that’s not a Subaru) and I like the looks of the early 2000’s Volvo’s, especially the boxy look of the late 90’s.
I’m a huge Volvo fan myself, in having owned an S60R, and being around Volvo techs a lot over the years. They are well made, reliable, safe, and still very unique. I would not hesitate in getting another S60R, but also love the C30, V70R, older C70’s, etc…there are a lot of cool ones out there.
Thanks.
Kind of looking for things like this, ppl with first hand knowledge, along with an informative forum.
I’m looking at them for a relatively fun, daily commuter, family/cargo hauler.
Neither did I till I got mine. I fell in love! Anyways, I’m very biased towards volkswagons not gonna lie, but honestly I would consider them. For the same price as an old volvo you can get a nice golf or jetta wagon. And if your planning on a new volvo you could get a very new low mile jetta or something.
Not looking to go any newer than '03 or so. I drove a 2.0 MK4(?) Jetta last year and really liked it, inside and out. I haven’t looked at the Jetta wagon closely enough, but they look smaller than what Volvo offers.
