Can either one of you give some reasons why?
Not being a wise ass, genuinely asking…
Because they’re awesome, comfortable, quick, have pretty good handling, great brakes, are reasonably reliable, reasonably cheap second hand. etc…
The S60R is an E36 M3 x .75
The 850s and V70s can be had without the crappy Volvo AWD. The front wheel drive makes the car lighter and faster. My buddy had a 850 with a larger turbo, tune, exhaust and suspension and it was a BLAST to drive. Way better then the small interior mundane driving S60R.
These things still look amazing. Fisrt gen C70.
1989 Volvo 750 wagon…

They love volvos
I wouldn’t require the AWD, FWD w/4 snows on the corners have done me well.
My only must have is that it be manual.
But what’s the matter w/Volvos’ system?
ive thought of getting one of these for DD
I’m sorry I have to add my favorite volvos
But really, these are nice
Bakes, if you want more info. from a guy that’s owned one, feel free to PM me and I’ll give you my #…I love talking Volvo’s…
There’s something special about them to me…even my wife, who could care less about anything car related, still speaks fondly of our S60R from time to time…
My wife has considered moving on from Honda as well.
We have an Element, which she loves, but it can be hard for her to get our daughter in and out with the car seat because the E sits a bit higher than a normal car.
I drive a '96 Civic Hx, though I love the fuel mileage, the reality that a 2dr coupe eventually will become inconvenient in a few months, I’m afraid will set in.
Never owned a Volvo but I find the s60R incredibly appealing for some reason. I’m a sucker for big body cars.
I have some friends who had 240 wagons for a while and loved them to death. One just upgraded to a v70r
1980-1987 just watch for shitty wiring harnesses if you go that old, they had some issues with disintegrating.
Any of them with the N/A 4 cylinder will be really slow but very reliable, the 5 cylinder is a decent engine if the owners maintained it,consistent oil changes are a must with the 5 cyl.
The 80-87 should not be an issue, not looking to go that old.
Volvo’s are amazingly safe, when parked in the driveway waiting to be towed. Can’t get in an accident when they don’t start. In my experience trying (key word TRYING) to diagnose anything, communication even for the dealer (watched this at work) is questionable. Just trying to get a scan tool to communicate correctly, NO DTC’s Found… But the Light is on? wtf. Random no start? Clean the throttle body I was told & magically it’ll start… It was true. No codes, no light, just no-start, carb clean and removing Rube Goldberg’s finest work that is their electronic throttle body. You said you want a STD trans, which is good due to the fact their track record is almost as bad as VW for predicted failure of automatic transmissions.
With such a strong opinions/views, can you provide more details?
What model/ year were all these problems on?
How many of these cars have you owned or worked on?
I’m not saying i don’t believe you, nor do i want to hear about only the good ones.
I want both good and bad experiences from folks who have a good amount of experience with them.
Watched one V70 lurch forward in the service drive at Northtowns and nearly run over the service adviser. Customer gets out screaming “THERE!!! BELIEVE US NOW? THAT’S WHAT MY WIFE HAS BEEN TRYING TO TELL YOU FOR MONTHS YOU SON-OF-A-BITCH!” I was entertained purchasing some of the required VOLVO branded spark plugs. Working for a shop I was working on a few, and I hated dealing with the customers, b/c they were an unhappy bunch. It was always hearing about how it was the third time this happened in a year, I’m selling this thing when the lights are off. Things break every day, but Volvo’s and Saabs, never again.
Well, to be fair, you’re dealing with ppl at dealership, which most are NOT educated car folks.
You’re also seeing only the worse
Go to any dealership, I’m sure there garage bays are not empty.
My '04 S60R had 128K when I bought it in '09, and I sold it after one year with 140K (bought an engagement ring, otherwise I’d still have it). I had 2 issues, an alternator went and the steering rack needed replacing. Both were cheap (180 for alt., 350 for new reman. rack). I thought with the car’s mileage, those were reasonable things to go when they went. Neither job was too hard. Aside from those 2 things, the car was flawless, and I would not hesitate for a second to get another one. In fact, when I"m in a better financial position, I prob. will. It was an amazing car…
