VW brake switch

car: 03 VW Taureg

So a few weeks ago my father was having an issue with his brake lights

they werent working

he couldnt drive all the way into NYC like that, so he spent the morrning at the dealership, car is under warranty

they look at the car, and proceed to tell him that he has a faulty brake switch on the pedal and it needs to be replaced

while he waits, my dad gets talking to one of the guys at the shop, he begins to tell my father that since 2001 all vw, porsche, etc…(any car made under that company) has a brake switch with a known flaw. So obviously this is worthy of a recall. The thing is theres too many cars out there with a faulty switch to do a recall, so VW has been producing a newly designed switch for some time now to make up for every vehicle that they have on the road that will need to be recalled. This faulty switch is in every car from 2001-2005.

While my father was at the dealership, three other ppl came with the same problem, some of these people dont have warranties anymore. The ppl without warranties are being charged for a faulty switch that is a known problem, and they are still replacing them with the old design which is bound to fail again.

I was shocked that they are actually charging ppl for this and still installing the faulty switch.

I guess the recall is planned to be announced in december when VW will have enough switches to fix everry car. This information came from the shop manager.

I think its BS, i thought i would post it here. VW and ur stupid electrical problems

Oh quit yer bitchin. :stuck_out_tongue: It’s a $10 dollar switch and is under recall. At least with the Jetta’s it is. I’m on my third switch and so far so good. Number two was free under the recall, number three I paid for. Three was different than two and so far works properly.
