my girl had her car in for service at vw dealer on 19. so she said while its here just change the oil…they told her it would cost 50 dollars…they had to put special oil in her car cause of vw oil sludge problem!!!
she has a 02 passat 1.8 t…
im gonna change her oil for now on.

when I worked at Jiffylube we got a tech bulletin about the VW sludge problem, but didnt hear anything about the use of special oil???
the ‘sludge’ issue is because people use shit oil… it clogs the pcv system and if bad enough will clog the oil pickup and blow the motor…
the extra money is because they are starting to use fully synthetic on all makes and models…
i run Mobile 1 0W40 fully synthetic… if i were you i’d run similar… get mann oil filters or ones with a proper checkvalve (pure1)… NOT fram.
is that what the engine calls for 0W40??
where can i pick up those filters from advanced??

My sisters audi with the 1.8t had the same problem, it got all sludged up b/c the dealer wasnt using syn, so they had to have to motor rebuilt. I personaly run mobil 1 and a mobil 1 filter (but i have a grand am so i guess that doesnt matter)
improper check valve placement (or lack there of) for the vw oil filter housing.

engine calls for 5w40 or 5w30 if you can’t get 40. 0w40 is ‘european blend’… natually there are minimal differences… just 0 viscosity.
filters can be had online by the bundle… that’s how i get’em. napa’s will work too…
