VW is hit or miss.
Generally much better if you buy it, and don’t fuck with it… then about 60% of people dont’ have issues.
40% of vw’s suck no matter what.
My GFs 07 Cooper S is developing a bunch of issues. It grinds between all of the gears randomly. In fact when she pulled out off the lot when it was new, the first time she went from 1st to 2nd, it ground.
I can clearly hear the throwout bearing making noise. Towne says it is a leak in the clutch line that they needed to order a part for. That was in December. They still haven’t called to let her know it is in.
It also randomly won’t allow the sunroof to open. It will start and then close back up immediately. Towne’s solution: use the sunroof more.
It also randomly makes a terrible plastic shredding noise when it is started for about a minute, again, randomly. Towne said they could not re-create the issue. So nothing was done.
The tire pressure monitoring system also randomly thinks a tire is low. And it’s not. Constantly.
I’m not doing this to rip on Minis. Her previous 05 non-S was much better behaved. My point is that there aren’t too many cars that are perfect. Especially European cars. You just need to take the good with the bad.
