VW reliability

i can sometimes be easily confused

My wife has had a MKV Jetta for over 3.5 years without any problems. Its what she wanted - heated pleather seats, moonroof, satellite and the base 2.5L with tiptronic. Lowered it and she couldn’t be happier.

Good luck on finding an '08 Evo for 25-26k. You will either get 0% financing or a decent sized rebate but you will easily be over 30k. Stretch out your payments for 72 months and it will be manageable but you will be tired of the car by the time you pay it off.

I bought the wife a 2002 e39 and now she doesn’t even think about the VW. The car was a certified pre owned with factory warranty. Maybe thats an option ?

Here’s an actual helpful post:

If you are buying a 2.0t, get one that says “TSI” on the engine cover. The TSI is an updated version of the FSI engine. About half of the FSI engines had ring issues that VW said are not issues. I know a few people with FSIs that use about 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. Both have less than 50,000 miles. VW says it is normal for new cars to use 1 qt every 800 miles. Wonderful.

The TSI supposedly had the ring issue fixed, and also gets a timing chain in place of a belt. This could be a good thing, or a bad thing. VW has a rough track record with timing chains.

or buy a car from an automaker that knows how to design engines.

I mean, it’s not like driving a Volkswagen is an ultimately gratifying experience. Why put up with this shit?

so today we were tearing apart my dads kitchen and a reciept fell from upstairs and it was for a volkswagon in 1972, 958$ worth of repairs, so they sucked back then and suck now

how much is that converted into todays money? like 6k wtf

:gotme:

Because they are pretty much the only reasonably priced modern diesel car on the US market.

First off, it’s VolkswagEn.

Second, who knows what was wrong with the car, if it was caused by the owner of the car, or if the repair shop was ripping the owner off.

The old air-cooleds were pretty much as reliable as a car can get. There wasn’t much to go wrong, and one could have an engine out in about 45 minutes.

Most comfortable & solid build for the money and the warranty is going to cover everything bumper to bumper for the next 4 years.

What about the rest of them?

I dunno about that. It’s competitive in build and comfort (maybe even a little bit ahead), but it has direct competitors like the Mazdaspeed 3 which are comfortable, solid and tend towards more reliability.

I guess it’s a personal taste thing, and I recognize the appeal, but one can’t discount the number of problems that these things have, if they’re considering owning it past warranty expiration.

I <3 the 2.5 rabbit.

sayin.

It is a VW I would buy and even replace my audi with.

So long as they both have tow hooks, I don’t care what you end up with

my 1.8t a4 is pushing 180k and heated leather/3 year maintenance is nice

i drive a GTi, and love her, shes good to me, im good to her…
but theres always one thing to remember about volkswagens

… They’re like the hot girlfriend who isn’t good to you and has all sorts of nervous
breakdowns and you really should get rid of her… but damn she’s hot!!!

They’re not ugly, but they’re more Sarah Jessica Parker than Angelina Jolie.

Well here is some food for thought if they are such huge piles of shit!!!

Best selling overall cars in the world.

Third on the list

Volkswagen Golf A bestseller from the time it hit the markets in 1974, the Volkswagen Golf is the world’s third bestselling car ever. It has gone through some five revisions and has managed to outsell its more famous cousin, the Volkswagen Beetle. Volkswagen Golf is said to have sold more than 25 million (2.5 crore) units till date.

Flame away!!!

Volkswagen Passat The Volkswagen Passat has sold over 15 million (1.5 crore) units since 1973 to make it the 9th bestselling car ever. Volkswagen, Europe’s largest car manufacturer, has also debuted in India with the Passat which is loaded with an incredible array of features that are not available in cars that are substantially more expensive. Each little aspect of the car is thought out and the car is built to standards that are seen only in luxury models. Besides this, the 140 bhp 2.0-litre diesel motor mated to the state-of-the-art DSG gearbox means this is a fantastic car to drive as well.

VW also had the Beetle on this list but I’m not a fan so I did not post it.

yeah all is fine and good while you have a warranty but things start falling apart hardcore around the 6-10 year mark ( if you are someone that holds on to cars that long)

Best-selling has little to do with the quality of the product (at best it’s tangentially and indirectly related). Advertising, product perception, initial experience, and salesperson skill are all larger roles in creating those statistics than the quality of the product itself.

Since you didn’t indicate which list you’re talking about, or where you found it, I can’t address your point directly, but it sounds like you’re talking about “all-time top selling cars,” so I’ll respond to that - the Golf, Passat, and Beetle are long-running lines. What’s been around longer? The Beetle emerged during the time of Studebaker and Nash, and I’m not aware of any car that’s been continuously made since 10 years after the Beetle premiered (when the Corvette, etc. appeared), though I’m not a classic car guru.

Additionally, the classic Beetle is no longer directly for sale in the United States. The new Beetle is a worse car, and much less reliable.

According to http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2009/01/the-top-10-best.html

The Ford F-series is the top selling vehicle of 2008. Volkswagen doesn’t even make the list. By your logic of sales volume = quality, the Ford F-150 is at least 5 times better than any Volkswagen. The Accord, Civic, Camry, and Corolla blow them all out of the water. So do the Impala, CR-V, Ram, Silverado, and Altima. Probably significantly more.

By that logic, also, the Lamborghini Murcielago is a joke. The Ferrari FXX? One of the worst cars ever made. And Volkswagen, while once a quality carmaker, is now terrible.

I say again, sales volume is an absolutely terrible indicator of the quality of vehicle.

they replaced just about everything in the electrical system, it was taken to a certified factory trained volkswagEn shop. either way, VW’s suck.

and it was for a 197x car. so suck it

my turn signals completely stopped working today

also, both wheelbearings need to be replaced. on a vw? weird

also, when i press the brake my front drivers side turn signal lights up. lol.

although, it is a very modified 91 gti

I suspect the mods have little to do with it.
