…timing belt and water pump, what?
Argue all you want, http://www.consumerreports.org will tell you what you need to know. IIRC VW was tied at the bottom of the barrel with mitsubishi for long term reliability, unfortunately it’s a pay site.
Coil Packs, Oil sludge, Timing chains, Oil burning… And those are recent problems, the history is even worse.
Newer used BMW’s have a pretty kick ass service plan for certified pre owned, and the prices aren’t that bad.
Here is the edmunds comparison of the two:
Price is within a couple hundred bucks. Jetta has a few more toys like the heated seats. The Si has an LSD. Bumper to bumper and powertrain warranties are the same. VW offers maintenance for 3 years 36k but wear items are not included. True cost to own is higher for the VW according to edmunds. Resale should be similar. This is the 2.0 turbo. The turbo motor and usable torque is really whats peaking my interest here. Hearing about oil consumption wheels bearings etc does not make me feel warm and fuzzy. Warranty is a great thing but having your car at the dealer non stop is a pain in the ass whether its covered or not. And what happens after your bumper to bumper is over? The civic I would never consider buying an extended warranty. It sounds like with the VW its a must have. That just drove the price up on the VW. I would still at least go test drive it if it was made in the mother land. If its made in Mexico no thanks.
Let me ask you something. You say this car is for your gf/fiance/wife. Does she want a car with an LSD, torquey motor, 6 spd, or do you? Most girls don’t know the difference and/or give two shits either way. I can see the advantage of a wolfsburg over a standard jetta(heated leather and other luxuries). However, it seems like for a DD for a chick, a standard 4-door civic would probably suit her well.
She wants an Evo man what does that tell you? I am reaching/searching/looking for a more affordable alternative.
Are you buying new? What about the Lancer Ralliart and the new 270 hp Impreza WRX? They’re a solid $10-15k less than an equivalently equipped Evo.
At least then you have some power to the rear wheels.
E: Edmunds says they’re only about $4k more than the Civic Si. You get 0-60 in 5.9 in the WRX.
New STi? You can haul stuff in it too.
That’s not really a big cost savings over the Evo. :meh:
yeah, but a trunk that actually fits a weeks’ worth of groceries is a big plus.(1 week includes are least 2 cases of beer)
X…
I agree, but how does that make up for the $10k extra in price over the WRX and Ralliart when he already said an Evo is too expensive and he’s looking for something that will cost less (and has mentioned nothing about groceries)?
Don’t get me wrong, I love the new STi, but if I were spending the money, (A) I would buy the Evo, (B) it seems like she would too, and (C) he said that something that costs less would be in line.
We do want new. Wrx and the ralliart are both out. Ralliart = no manual terrible on gas fake evo pos. 09 WRX = have you heard about all the motor issues? And truth be told after owning an 06 wrx and an 07 2.5i I don’t think i will ever own a Subaru again. There is nothing in the mid 20s that appeals to me. Its 4 doh Si veedub or strech for an Evo. Her lease still has a few months left so we have time. If i can find an new 08 Evo late summer around 25-26 after rebates and 0% we’re gonna be eating ramen noodles for a while.
I think that’s wishful thinking. Maybe around $29k-30k after rebates, if you get it for invoice, and 0% if the dealership is in a sell-or-starve situation.
If you can get an Evo for under $32k, I say do it, and don’t look back.
Mirrors are not very strong and the cars tend to attract ass hole drivers and eggs.
I can’t even tell what car that is based on the small size and cropping of those photos. Care to clarify?
JD Power and Associates has nothing to do with the vehicle’s actual reliability, and everything to do with the people driving the cars and reporting on them. Jaguar at the top of the list?
I’m not saying Volkswagen is particularly reliable, just that JD Power and Associates’ surveys aren’t very convincing evidence.
The mirrors break off really easy!
- this car was more then my new g8!
JD power ranks are actually purchased (indirectly)
X…
So what you’re telling me is I should not sell my Audis for a Buick?
There’s not one Buick made in the past 40 years except for the GNX that I would take over any Audi in the current line-up. ANY Audi.
Well JD power has it at the TOP of the list so it must be the best…:roflpicard:
