Might of missed it, but how does she like the Civic interior?? It’s definitely love or hate, I like the cockpit feel…

i dont hate vw’s, christ, i own one
all im saying is if its for your gf buy her a honda. you’ll be much happier in the long run
crap, I’m late to the party. I don’t really think I have to say anything… I mean… Honda or a VW?
You know you’ll have to drive it at times too.
have you thought about a G6 or a Fusion?
Jesus, the VW Anti-Defamation League came out in force. They’re not bad cars, and there are a few that I’d happily own. That said, they’re not as reliable as the Civic. You should be able to admit that Volkswagens tend to be less reliable than Hondas, and that this would hold true with this purchase.
You can love your cars, and still admit that the Civic is way better for the average driver. Kind of like how I love my Cooper S, but if you throw one into this equation, I’m still going to say, “Have her get a Civic Si.”
I have been driving mine like I stole it and getting 27mpg every week.
Seriously this time, I don’t know why everyone says they suck on fuel? It’s a 3000lb car with the most power in its class and will still get 31 highway. I don’t see that as bad.
BTW, the new rabbits and built in germany, not sure about the jettas though.
If it is truly a car for her, and not you, get her the most reliable thing she would drive. Less work for you at the end of the day.
X…
Why does she want a Civic Si? Does she even know the difference between a standard 4-door and a civic si?
aren’t new cars warrantied?
The civic will probably be more reliable and the VW more comfortable.
I have enjoyed my 03 Jetta vr6 and my 06 GTI with no major problems at all. I miss my VW and look forward to dumping the subaru to go back to one
I believe they have the maint. program like the BMW pricks now too.
X…
hmmm hondas hold their value very, very well.
+1
earlier you mentioned chipability etc. you’re not planning to mod your gf’s car are you? gf driving + mods = not reliability
They do.
I’ll chime in as I bought a new GTI as a DD and haven’t had an issue but I’ve only had it 6-7 months now.
I love that people keep using examples of VW’s with 150k+. Truth is once you get above 130k in any car you’re going to have reliability issues. The only real problem VW’s have that i’ve noticed are the ignition coil’s going [cheap easy fix]. You can find horror stories about any make/model. True honda’s in general are more reliable then VW’s. But so are toyota’s. But compared to many other brands they have excellent reliability. For the price I’d go with VW, they are really trying to make deals right now, and you can get quite a bit more for your money from VW then honda who really haven’t been hurting quite as bad in the recession.
Compared to what other brands? Hyundais? VW is pretty much bottom of the barrel as far as import reliability goes.
For what it’s worth all the problems I had with my VW came between 0 miles and 60k miles. I had enough problems in those 60k miles for me to be very glad to be getting rid of it. Also the problems started occuring right around 400 miles. Yes within 2 weeks of owning a brand new car and they never stopped. This was a Mexican built VW. If you never owned a Mexican built VW you can not talk about their reliability.
you should post up some details about which exact model you’re looking at. like year, milage, etc. i might have missed it though. this thread didn’t really have the kind of posts that make me feel smarter for reading them, so i kinda skimmed through this.
i’m going to try and remember this correctly, so if i’m wrong, please don’t let the vw god haenszel come down and smite me or something. i’m pretty sure that all mexican built vw’s start with a vin number of 3VW where all wolfsburg built vw’s start with a vin of WVW or maybe 1VW. that also sounds a lot like some nonsense i would have read on the vortex which could have from someone who stretches tires and staggers FWD cars so who knows how true it is.
personally, i’d rather drive a newer VW than a newer honda. i’d also rather have my gf in a honda though from an overall history of reliability between the two brands.
HONDA and reliability go hand in hand…
