VW window pins 98>

Has anyone had a problem with their VW window pins falling out and their windows comes out of the track? I tried fixing mine but its such a pain in the ass and from what I’ve been reading you have to insert the little plastic pin in the glass before you drop it into the track?!?! I didnt know this trick before but some techs on VW forums all agree this is the proper way to do it.
I finally fixed all the electrical problems Ive been having with my 99 Passat and this is like one of the last broken things that Id like to fix.

yeah man… it does suck

my door cable is all F’d and my door doens’t close 1/2 the time

these doors are a PITA

i never messed with window pins though, mine still work :x:

I have fixed a few broken window clips in A4’s. The ones that break are cheap plastic. The repair kit from VW comes with replacement metal clips. The first time you do the job it’s a PITA. If you’re uncomfortable with dismantling the door and taking apart a window mechanism I would take it to someone familiar with the job.

Oh the door has been dismantled completely and glass removed to gain access to the door handle mechanics which was the original problem…now neither my door handle or my window is fixed lol. I’m gonna give it another go next weekend and hopefully get it right. What a fucking PITA. This is harder than any other suspension, electronic or mechanical upgrade or repair I’ve ever done to any car Ive ever worked on. This by far takes the cake and its so frustrating I dont even want to think about it but now I have experience and some more knowledge, I aint skeered.

The curse of VW door handles and window clips has hit you. Damn parts are breaking faster than you can fix them! I feel your pain (I have 6 VW’s myself). Good luck. I might suggest taking digital pictures of the mechanism before you take it apart-- you always think you can remember until it’s time to put it all back together!
