wats better bang 4 $ SR or RB25

wats a better motor for the 240…i know the sr is bolt in and is lighter but the rb25 has more displacement and more power but is the rb worth it? is the cast iron block better than alluminum? and anyone know how hard it is to get the rb in? i know u haveta change the driveshaft.

thanks for info.

What are you planning to do with the car. Because both have advantages. If your going to be autocrossing the car at any point I would stay away from cast iron.

May I ask why should he stay away from a cast iron engine ?!

because he “THINKS” it is heavier and somehow less strong

i want to try sum drifting and b able to burn thoses 5.0 without spending to much to on upgrades. i was reading this site here and they say its not too hard to get it in:

I was just woundering if anyone swaped an rb25 in a 240 here and how things turned out

In the drift bible the drift king said that the s13 is lacking front weight and that is why it understeers, would a heavier motor change this?

SR will be easier to find every day parts, but if the car isnt ure daily driver then i personally would go RB, well thats my plan when i finally make my car the proect car soley. But i belive an RB is around 1000-1500 more than an SR so if cost is an issue theres taht to consider too.

just hearing u mention the slightest concern about $$… i suggest u go with the sr20!

I am not familiar with RB stuff…but I know I haven’t had a problem in 2 years ever finding needed parts for my SR. including plenty of aftermarket stuff that was available within the country.
but I agree that you need to decide what your ultimate goal with these engines would be. they will both have there advatages and disadvantages, bang for your buck…the SR has been good to me and countless other car enthuisiasts.

my stock sr kicked the crap out if it i ran 14.0 @98mph in a quarter and they run high 14 with a good driver

an sr running high 14’s with a good driver?? hmm a strong na ka should be able to nearly achieve that …

So anyone have an idea why he should stay away from an cast iron block like variable mentioned ?! Especially if he is autocrossing … ?!

Hahaha. Good one! I think he was saying a 5.0 would run high 14’s anyways…

ahh my bad…should of read closer!

RB25’s suck…

Get the best of both worlds, CA18DET

Yes I do think its heavier. Do I think its stronger… No. I was under the impression that the RB25 is a I6 and cast iron. While the SR20 is a I4 and Aluminum correct. The RB25 is likley a longer engine with will shift the weight of the car farther forward of the front axels. This will create a tendancy to understeer in high speed corners.

the weight difference is negligible. because the RB has to sit further back in the bay, and lower, it has a better centre of gravity. most of the weight is centered above the axles this way, and the weight difference is about 60 lbs. throw your 30 lb battery in the trunk, and you’re already at a better weight balance than a stock KA.

people should really read their stuff on fresh alloy/zilvia/NICO before asking questions/making uneducated comments here. :butthead:

Ive drivin more RB S13’a that CA or SR. They feel pretty good. Just look at a Cafiro. Same thing pretty much and do fine with those. But ya not much more weight. Like said above throw the battery in the trunk and it will be a good set-up but I doubt any of us would notice the weight of a battery!
