What Blew Up Travis's STi?

It’s incredible the way your memory works sometimes. AFAIremember Dom tried to make your car run right after your 1000hp tune you got in new jersey or somewhere…and I don’t think he changed much due to some problem you had. Or maybe he didn’t change much because you brought your car to get tuned and didn’t bring cash. You never fail to amaze me Travis…I’m sure now that Seth has seen Dom tune first hand he knows your claim that he tuned you car is just another story like so many others.

whoa whoa whoa… hold the fuck up here byron.

first off my “1000hp” tune in new jersey was on the stock turbo which yielded the same numbers on that dyno that my cobb accessport flash had given me.

next. i brought 45$ with me as i was only looking for someone to set the injector scaling properly as i just installed my fp green, pe850’s, inlet, etc…

dom did NOT input the correct injector size, nor did he set the proper base fuel pressure.

the true nature of what that tune cost me was MUCH more than $45 as the result of his shitty tune caused a blown motor and at the minimum ~$2k for a new OEM shortblock. i then took the new shortblock and had it built… then tuned by someone who i now trust. Seth @ moon is heads and shoulders above dom any day in my opinion. getablownmotortune.com for the fucking loss.

I’m sure your little shop of horrors had nothing to do with your motor…

And here you are running WOT on a rough tune that was never even road tuned.

I seem to remember how you were getting bashed online in the past and I don’t think you appreciated it then. Maybe you should contact Dom and ask him what he did because I think you might be off a little here…

Good luck with your motor Jay and Synapse as well.

Sorry to hear about the car jay. Good luck with it and hope to see it at the track soon.

there were some other contributing factors, but the “tune” that dom put on the car was not even close to being proper… he had the injector size input as 750cc and the scaling all wrong. the fuel pressure was completely off as well. adam hennessy noted that the car was running rough as shit while it was at his shop AFTER the oiling issues were sorted. IIRC jays05 and justin mcgrath tried to set injector latency on the 850’s so i could get it home the day the green was originally installed. i brought it to YOUR HOUSE Byron to have dom look over things and see what he could do for $45 to clean it up. it would NOT build boost past 12psi at your house due to a faulty boost control solenoid. this is when the oiling issues were discovered after it puked the fp green 3 days later… adam hennessey repaired the oiling issue and noted then that the motor didnt seem happy with the current tune on it. the motor puked 3 days later. 10 months pass, i buy my block now, and drive it to moon performance going through 12 gallons of fuel in 117 miles… not fucking cool. GROSS over-fueling is seths determination of why the previous block failed… if it were not receiving so much fuel it would not have created a cylinder wash condition seizing the bearings and borking tons of internal parts within the OEM shortblock…

this is quoted from adam hennessy from the rspeed site. :

See now this is funny because I distinctly remember telling this to you when you picked up the car last time …that it was dumping massive amounts of fuel and due for cylinder wash, and being THAT bad, complete contamination. Told the same thing to your mother while you were signing the “contract”. I’m glad you finally got it to a competent tuner to show you the true nature of that tune. I can say that when I talk to Seth and the first thing he tells me is that the motor oil looked leaner than a 2 stoke gas mix I’m telling you you’re lucky you didn’t blow that new shortblock. Very lucky, so put that thought in the savings bank and save it for a rainy day…

Talked with Seth myself as well(looking for 2/4 channel osciloscope). You have to remember you still have an OEM TMIC that’s due for major heat soak. Letting a setup like that cool 15 minutes between pulls can yield 20hp differences on these cars. Remember too, Byron was making 350-370ish on that same dyno with a front mount and meth. Grantid, your turbo may be a bit bigger but hot air is hot air and the nature of the boxer motors with the timing they use(you’re near 18 degrees) you can only force so much hot air into them before they hit a brick wall, or stat detonating so bad you must back off.

Get her up and running and then look for better ways to aid the power gains. I’d bet selling off the 3" perrin pipe and housing and getting the 2.5" setup will drastically affect low end torque as the airflow won’t be so jostled in that pinched setup now. TVG deletes anyone???

Hope it all works out in the end for you…

NOW with this being said… dom fucked the tune. /story.

as a matter of fact… not end of story… here is a quote from seth at moon himself in reference to my tune from dom…

chiming in!
Well i guess i may as well chime in whilst i recover from a buscher induced migraine. LOL. Anyways, yesterday afternoon, i prepped the rom for the tune and found the injector size to be off, fixing that and bat offset, instantly cleared out the misfire and the car stopped consuming fuel like it was. I think travis got about 8 mpg on the trip up here, i have done numerous pulls and have only used an 1.8th tank now! trav, youll be psyched about that if nothing else. Motor sounds wonderful, no noise at all that i usually associate with forged pistons ( i know i have forged cp’s in the shop car and they irritate me to say the least) there are some roadblocks to moster power at this point, but as travis mentioned, its all going to come together down the line. i would do a monster topmount, or a front mount, tgv deletes and at least water injection, i think byrons sti put down 358 or 368 whp (corrected) on 23-24 psi and spraying water only. so standing at 328 (corrected) at 22 - 22.5 psi with no water on the stock topmount is pretty decent in my book. i think when i get the couple repaired/replaced and some good strong clamps, travis is goign to end up with a damn consistent and amusing car to get through the winter with, although it might need some snow tires for sure!

on a side note, i would definately have to lean towards severe over fueling as being the potential destructive force with the old block, if we are lucky we got it before it did any damage this time around, def goign to get at least a second oil change post tune.

this is all so funny because I talked to dom today and he vividly remembers your car.
You showed up with that $45 and knew it wasn’t enough for a tune so you asked him to simply set the injector scaling.
He tried 900, 600 and everything in between and your car would not idle.
He told you there was an issue with your car that he could not fix and that it should not be driven hard. You admittedly drove it hard anyway.
That’s all dom did for you/to your car. He’s looking for the tune you showed up with and I’ll post it up if I get it.
Dom didn’t tune your car. He never left my driveway with your car.
He also wanted to make sure you remembered how your tune from jersey had your target boost set to 71psi and wondered if you realized you can’t set fuel pressure with a tune and that you are retarded.

Byron! Long time man :lol

How ya been?

Been great. I’ve been trolling here a while.

oddly enough with the correct scaling seth got the car to run perfectly fine with the 850’s …and INPUT AS 850’s. the 71psi target boost was obviously in an attempt to get the car to boost past 12-14psi as the stock boost control solenoid was fucked (as i previously stated.) there WERE issues with the car building boost at your house but the only reason it didnt idle properly was due to the nature of the fucking tune itself. that car had NO fuel issues. had a brand new walbro255, pe850s and a new fuel filter with a brand new full tank of 93… the only possible reason it wouldnt idle is due to poor tuning. seth @ moon will get all my business as far as tuning my car. as i look at it… dom cost me a motor.

Look you little weasel, your car was fucked up when it showed up at Byron’s. You did not bring enough for a full tune and you asked me to help the car idle. The car did not idle well regardless of what was done and I told you something was wrong. The car was misfiring repeatedly at idle on cylinder 4. You assured me the engine was fine and that it was just something with the tune. When I pulled the tune you had on the car you had 71psi target boost, 28 degrees of timing at full boost at 4k rpm and up. I fixed those two items and did my best to get your car to idle. I told you not to drive the car hard until you figured out the problems. However, when you left Bryon’s house, you punched it trying to show off or something. RIGHT AFTER I TOLD YOU TO GET THE PROBLEMS FIXED BEFORE DRIVING IT HARD!!.

YOUR DUMB ASS COST YOU YOUR OWN MOTOR. NOW GROW THE FUCK UP AND ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT IS NOBODY’S FAULT BUT YOUR OWN!

your car DID have issues. It was probably already blown up from your 28 degrees at full boost tune and I was just trying to get a 3 cylinder boxer motor to idle smoothly.

Gotta say Travis…driving hard after being told not to puts the blame on yourself for the blown motor. You obviously knew it wasn’t running right since you took it to dom to try and fix it. IDK of any other moron that would drive hard fully knowing that their car was not running in tip top shape.

Yeah not smart…

lol, this thread is great allready, full of entertainment

i’ll have to agree Dj

yeah :banana another thread where travis makes an ass of himself…what’s new?

And my first split to fight club… :crackup

maybe we should send the tune that you showed up to my house with to seth…then he could compare it to what you showed up there with and we’ll know that dom didn’t change anything to do with the tune. Only enough inj. scaling to make your car idle (kind of).

You can thank your super tune from jersey and your failure to listen for your motor blowing…

He can thank his own stupidity too. I don’t know anyone that is into cars that would run their car hard if it wasn’t running like it should. Being told or not.

I have no idea what happened but I can’t count the # of times a tuner said: “There’s a rough tune” or “you have some issues” or etc… AND “Don’t drive it hard” and the owner just beats the snot out of it.

You can probably drive around with a horrid tune assuming you aren’t cylinder washing and be OK for a bit but when you start adding load, all bets are off. :frowning:

EPIC WIN…
