you werent there… shut your mouth.
So the car runs fine now?
This thread is about something that happened 10 months ago right? That is what I have interpreted?
yes. car is 100% fine on an AMAZING tune by SETH @ moon performance.
Alright cool :thumb.
oiling problems?
Didn’t you say your block failed from bearings? Wouldn’t that be linked to the oiling problems and not a tune?
You asked for your car to run until you got a proper tune. You got that. You beat on the car without a proper tune. Why is that my fault?
IF I did drive your car (which I’m pretty sure I didn’t) I would have only done so to verify throttle response and AFR’s in closed loop operation via the factory O2 sensor. I DID NOT hook up a wideband to your car as I was not paid for road tuning.
Regardless of all that, your car was NOT running 8:1 AFRs. Your car would not run at 8:1. Subarus don’t do that.
Your tune was not an unsafe engine breaking tune regardless of what you say here.
You did not bring enough money for a road tune. That’s why I didn’t road tune it. In fact, your file is named “Travis04STidesktoptune.hex” on my laptop for a reason. I fixed a bunch of errors with your old tune and you want to bash the shit out of me for not knowing what your AFRs were at full throttle? I wasn’t paid for that! You didn’t ask for that! You didn’t bring enough $$ for that! I gave you what you asked for to the best ability of the car. It had issues and wouldn’t idle right. I apologized for not being able to get it to run right and that you should have the problems fixed. The AFRs could very well have been “WAAAAAAY Rich” at WOT. So what? I couldn’t verify that because I wasn’t Road tuning your car.
If you had brought the right amount of money (which I think was only another 15-25 bucks) I would have done a full road tune. I would have hooked up the WBO2, just like everyone else’s car. I would have set and verified the AFRs at WOT. YOU DIDN’T PAY FOR THAT SERVICE! The tune was already ROCK BOTTOM price, and if I was to give you the same service for less than everyone else- HOW IS THAT FAIR TO THE OTHERS? OR FAIR TO ME?
How on earth could you blame me for that shit?
Regardless of any tune on the car:
You drove it with problems. You drove it hard KNOWING there were problems. Problems other than the tune and yet you still blame me for your engine failure.
The obvious problem is your clear lack of understanding in how an engine operates and how an ecu is tuned. Nothing I did would have ever allowed AFRs to be 8:1. Only a component failure would do that. I already showed how the factory ecu has enough authority to adjust 50% under closed loop operation.
It doesn’t bug me that you will refer all your friends to Seth. He’s a good tuner, great guy and needs the business as it’s a little slow up there in Lake Placid. Besides that, it only makes sense… I’m in Seattle, Washington.
Stop being such a dick to Byron. He doesn’t deserve it.
I am sorry man but I am still not sure how you can point fingers.
You had a horrid tune GOING to NJ that must have been near cylinder washing. What damage happened on that trip?
The tuner was borderling suspect. But, we will let that pass.
Go to Dom and he does the infamous $45 tune.
Motor blows. Not sure why?
New motor installed and then the AFR is checked? Who knows the AFR on the previous motor. Just because rich then doesn’t mean it’s rich before.
Who knows? You could 100% be right but given the history and timeline, I wouldn’t point fingers but that’s just me.
Why, because I’m right? Most of the people in this thread were not there either.
You just can’t admit to the fact that the motor blew and it was because of your actions.
You can’t compare tunes on one block to another. Depending on the configuration you can severely alter the VE of the engine. Changing the block or any other parameters will totally affect any tune on the car. Your car had issues before and was probably not being efficient with it’s fuel usage. Your compression was probably pretty low on a couple cylinders. When you put a brand new block with good compression, you burn more of what you put in there. This will give a different AFR reading.
I can assure you there were no 8:1 AFRs or anything as ridiculous as that on your car when it left Byron’s house. There was nothing wrong with my tune.
However, you can give it the thumbs down if you want. My feelings aren’t hurt and I’m not even upset anymore.
You worded it better than I but I still said it first.
Also, boost leaks can alter AFR. Car A = leaks = less air = more fuel in AFR = 11.5 (example) Car B = no leaks = more air = less fuel in AFR = 8 AFR
Just a possibility.
But, as you said, comparing is pointless.
Not to mention Dom’s reputation isn’t exactly poor, Travis seems to be the only one I’ve ever heard anything negative from about regarding his tunes.
well shit… if i ever buy a STI, and move to Washington… i’ll never come to you dom! because the guy with the pink rims says you suck!!!1!!on1!11!!
:idiots :crackup
why oh why!?!
:insert suicide smiley here:
That’s it, I’m giving up tuning!
:sad
you should tune EVOs instead… a lot less scumbag owners ;D
there are alot of Evos in the area hes at. Dom, hows the weather out there?? i miss the Puget Sound.
I know an Evo MR that could use a good tune. :tong
Evo tuning…
actually, I do tune quite a few evos. The competition is pretty stiff out here because everyone loves that lucas english guy who lives just down the way. No matter, though, I stay too busy with Subarus as it is.
The weather? well…
We had 5 days of sun last week, so I think we’re down to 14 days of sun left for 2008. Today isn’t one of them. I thought my tan faded when I lived in NY. HA! I’ve never been so white. Hell, I think I was more tan underwater for 6 months on a sub.
Lucas does great work on the Evo’s. PDX tuning is pretty big out there too, as is world one… there is a huge scene out there for all basis of cars. i spent almost 5 years out there and was very pastey. and the 14 days of sun left sounds about right. summer of 2003 was the best i saw there, something like 65 days of rain free summer, with a burn ban inplace in all of western washington
not to start a pissin match again but if ya had oiling probs maybe just maybe taht could be what smoked the motor on top of whatever else?
The real answer is that no one will know. The problem started from the previous owner and then progressed into the car being driven down to NJ for a tune with a horridly rich AFR. Personally, that car would be GONE as soon as I knew of the previous ownwer.
If the finger is pointed because of a rich AFR from a tune put on a previous motor, then that’s ridiculous. That’s just my two cents though.
i agree ive known him for years its just a way out to em i guess
