THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN SAYING!!!
DO IT!!!
^I am still looking at everything under the sun but it may come down to one of those.
So I drove a supercharged vehicle yesterday and have some questions and comments…
Are they all like a light switch; no power or full on tire burning torque? It was automatic tranny so if you give it a little gas it starts in second gear and has no power but if you give it just a little more it downshifts, makes tons of noise and spins the tires which really doesn’t make you go faster it just destroys the tires. Second question is; Can you get more power from a supercharger or is it pretty much you get what you get? When the vehicle was first advertised it claimed 380hp but when I did a little research I found it was more likely 304hp. After driving it I found it was definately in the 304 range. This vehicle would be for work but I still have 300hp minimum on anything I buy.
Can I get more powa somewhat easily?
Is this from that factory SC or aftermarket?
Since we are playing the, I don’t give any real details game. I test drove a supercharged vehicle last Thursday and it seemed civilian at lower RPMs and vicious when I planted the skinny pedal. Similar but definitely different from what I have dealt with turbo lag in the past.
From what I have read factory SC usually have some decent HP/TQ that can be had for cheap with a proper tune.
Sorry, yeah TRD, dealer installed I believe. I have seen some vids of guys in Tacomas the 12.xxx second range but wasn’t sure what has to be done to acheive that.
I am used to turbo lag and then building power through out the revs but this thing was just instant on or off. It felt much different because it didn’t continue to pull harder. The only way I can describe it is: electric golf cart. lol
There are different types of superchargers. Some have torque from 1k rpm and fall on their face up top. Others need to be spun to 6k to feel the full boost pressure.
You can throw pullies on to super charger to increase boost pressure but you are limited to that superchargers efficiency range. If you want to go above the largest pulley, you need to buy a bigger supercharger.
my take away is that automatics continue to suck and the gearing was poor. Don’t blame the supercharger.
^^ Yeah, I think the supercharger was at its limit, not sure.
^The autotragic definately greatly limited the amount of control. I wanted to be in first gear but didn’t necessarily want all available torque. Maybe it just takes some learning/practice. :gotme:
with turbos (and not enough traction) you have to put you foot down then back off at the torque hits, with superchargers it’s a little more sudden and almost the other way around.
You should look into a used X5 ///M. I got to drive one down at the BMW factory this weekend (more on this later). Seriously an incredible machine.
I saw your old Allroad at the Walmart off Transit yesterday. DId you sell to a member?
Awesome car, outrageously expensive.
yeah it really is…I saw a used one on autotrader for $41k. Probably a previously wrecked vehicle though.
$41k is definitely one that’s been rolled, or “owned” by a nigerian.
lol yeah, if it’s too good to be true…
X5M would be super sweet but… In my extended search I have seen aboot 20 “too good to be true” cars.
Have you looked into a C6 S6. I think they look great, and the lambo V10 is pretty cool, although I don’t know how maintanence would be.
The AWD would be great for where you live, but these are not nearly as fast as e60 M5’s, and you can’t expect it to handle as well either, but you do want AWD.
As far as superchargers, a centrifigal supercharger feels like a turbo in that it doesn’t build boost instantly, but it feels much smoother than most turbos (no surging, boost builds in a linear way, keeps pulling right to redline). A roots blower and a twin screw make full boost almost as soon as you get into the gas, they are torque beasts. Roots are not as effecient as twin screw and create more heat.
Ugh, so tempted to try and find a white/black Avant to swap my B7 for.
“On the Road again” This is going to get old really quick. Again, it sucks that Buffalo has no desirable cars. When you are renting cars to go look at cars, you know its bad. lol
Hopefully this is the one. :snky:
We’ve talked about this. Go South of the Mason Dixon line.
I am waiting for a response to my second lowball offer. He said he would call back this morning but now it is afternoon. Oh well whatever.
I am still being :snky: because of the uber siqness of this car. lol
