What could this be??????HELP

Okay for the past month or so I have been hearing this sound …its like a constant shuttering sound ( that is the best way to describe it ) —This sound only happens if I where to " get on it " typically from a dig. Then the sound usually follows through 2nd gear maybe even 3rd unless I let off and slow up. This noise is NOT continuous through my driving just when I am really bringing the rpms up quickly.

IMPORTANT NOTE** this sound is coming from my driver’s side front tire area… I was thinking that it may be my axle though the last PASSENGER side axle ( which i can only relate to ) only made a" popping " sound when I was turning hard. ** So is this also something that would happen when an axle is bad or could this be another suspension component??

I am heading in 2 DAYS to Tennessee ( thats a 7 hr drive each way) I will be alone and not sure if I should focus on fixing this problem befroe my trip. I don’t want to put myself in danger ( if it is somehting more serious )

BTW this morning while rushing to work …I noticed it much more and through all of the gears even after letting off a good bit, it continued ( meaning its gettingt5tt worse )

HELP!!!

I would guess an axle

Or motor mount?

checked motor mounts everything is good will them unless youir meaning it would just be something non visible and just the vibration…but it really FEELS like its coming from the wheels area.

Is it safe to drive with the axle that way…is it odd on how it is responding to the quick raise in rpm’s and not popping at ALL on a turn??

When I had my h22 in my integra, I had 2 different sets of mounts,
started with HASPORT no shakes nothing.

then i got a cheapo brand, and when i would get on the gas hard it would bind and vibrate.

by looking at it i could not tell it was duing it…It will prob be fine as long as its not duing it all the time… i would have someone check the wheel bearings and everything in the front end to make sure its not something else. it wouldent hurt to slam another axle in there either…for 50 or less its really not worth risking being stranded 7 hours away!

I was starting to second guess the axle being the problem…so I did some research and seems like this sounds like my problem…( maybe ) …wheel bearing???

"When bearings do complain the noise is usually speed-specific—the noise varies according to the speed of the spinning wheel in which it is contained. Clicks, rumbles and groans that vary with vehicle speed may indicate a bearing that has lost its ability to handle the load. Another good way to check wheel bearings without disassembly is to jack the wheel in question up off the ground, grab it from both the top and the bottom, and attempt to move it. There should be very little or no movement at all. "

you still have that solid mount on the drivers side?

as soon as i read your problem i was gonna guess wheel bearing. not so good to drive long dist with that. best of luck… i think i saw you goin up to suspect park today while i was at the 7-11 gettin money from the mac machine

gonna check the car out tongiht along with a oil change…but NO that wasn’t me I have been working since 9 this morning.

I have a set of 98 Civic front knuckles laying my garage with good bearings and balljoints if you need them.

Since i’ve managed to destroy a few civic suspension components during autox, I can give you a quick rundown of what you can look for if you have a spare 5 mins. Jack up a corner using the jackpoint below the driver/passenger door. If you can, try to get your steering column to lock this will make things a little easier since it will lock your whole suspension in place for you.

Grab the wheel, shake it side to side a few times. Then top to bottom a few times. If its moving excessively in any of those directions you probably lost the wheel bearing. If its not moving at all, this doesn’t rule out a bad wheel bearing it just means it hasn’t failed completely yet. But its a quick way to just check.

Next thing, reach in above the wheel and grab the spindle upright, just below the upper ball joint. Pull in and out on that a few times. Then if you can, get a 2nd jack, place it below the lower ball joint and jack the suspension up slightly (this will put it under load) grab the spindle upright again and shake it. If you hear a clicking from the upper ball joint at any point, its going bad. I’ve killed a ton of these things, thankfully replacing them is usually pretty easy.

Last things I can think of would be just to give the same shake test to the steering tie rod, axle, and the rod that goes up to the front sub frame (to check for bushing failure up there). Though the last 3 I mentioned are usually pretty rare. I dunno about swaps, but most axles I’ve seen on hondas usually have a bit of play in them. I’m sure other people might use different methods, but thats the way I usually go about things when I’m out someplace and I have to do and quick check to see how things are holding together.

thanks for the above…I will check the other suspension components since seeing your post just to make sure…BUT

I changed my oil yesterday after work and did the test on the wheel bearing…that was the culprit.

Headlight bulb fluid? Or maybe the Flux Capacitor is going bad…u might to get that checked out
