What does a "Detail" entail?

As an ongoing discussion between detailers, we’ve started a ‘survey’ if you will, to gauge public awareness of what’s involved in a professional detail. Please voice your opinion!

This is just a little question to gather some information on what detailing is to the public. If you all wouldn’t mind posting up your answers, I would appreciate it, even if the answers are the same as other people who posted before you.

What does the term DETAIL mean to you?

What do you expect for results after having your vehicle DETAILED?

How much would you be willing to pay for a DETAIL?

Thanks

My definition of Detail

Exterior only. Car must be spotless after washing. Then polished to rid of all the paint flaws, then sealant, then wax. Same goes for rims too especially painted ones like my OEM ones.

Price… no more than $100… Nobody does it that cheap, that’s why I have to do it myself

haha, i sorta know what it means, so it’s hard for me to give a straight answer i suppose.

exterior detailing is everything David said. claybaring, compounding, wax and seal. wheel wells must be clean, exhaust polished (the visible parts), tires scrubed and shined, rims cleaned PROPERLY. maybe have the rubber trims protected too. I also expect the detailer to know what they’re doing and use the correct products (ie, no wheel cleaner on clear coated rims, microfibre whatever, etc). I dont’ expect the engine bay to be cleaned unless it’s specified.

interior detailing i expect carpets to be vaccum and cleaned as necessary, leather be shampooed and conditioned, plastic trims to be cleaned and protected.

I know the price of a detail can vary, and i know it’s not cheap to get good results. I expect a good detailer will take hours on my car and not cut corners (or waste time).

What does the term DETAIL mean to you?
-someone (or myself) cleans my car inside and out.

What do you expect for results after having your vehicle DETAILED?
-my car to be clean.

How much would you be willing to pay for a DETAIL?
-$50-75 im a cheap a$$, if more then il let my car get dirty, and clean it when it starts to get really dirty again.

plain and simple for me.

We’re off to a good start!.. (compared to an off-roading board!)

Keep it coming!

detailing means the car should look as new as possible, spotless inside, carpets should be shampooed if necessary, not a spec of dirt anywhere, the engine bay should be shampooed, the exterior should be washed (spotless) and waxed, anything more then that should cost extra. all the door jams should be clean, and any other crevice should be cleaned as well. as i said, it should look like new, not just from the outside, but everywhere. That’s how we delivered new and used cars to customers when I worked at Sheridan Chevrolet Cadillac.

Hanzzzz,
Thanks for your input, I’ll do follow-up comments for all the above once everyone has had voiced their opinion!

Bump!
