nope… 98s were def perimeter bolts, and 99+ were 4 center bolts…
98s and 99s had the ls1 intake mani. u can tell by if the coolent lines from head to head t-off under the mani to the back of the engine. ls6 intakes will sit flush on the valley. also, what are the casting numbers on the heads…should be 241
alright I’ll play…does the block have a bullseye on the passenger side near the cyl head? Does the section of intake manifold behind the TB have a hole for EGR? Either way, its a 98 cylinder head and valve cover.
werd. was going to say ls6 intakes have no provision for EGR and 98’s def have perimeter bolts. 806’s eh? i’ll have ot look and see on that. i know of 241’s (2001-2002), 852 and 853’s i believe.
venomblue550 is the member on here that sold the engine to him… mike i think you need to make a Post and ask him whats going on… this is way too fishy to me
Ok again thanks for the replys u guys are great, especially those helping me identify this motor… OK so i went out and snapped some pix of the motor again, so far i do not see an EGR hole in the inake so i’m feeling pretty good that its an LS6 intake but look at the pix and u tell me for sure. Next the head, i took a pic of the head to show the 806 number, thats the only number i can find. This might sound stupid but what kind of valve coveres did the 5.3L heads use, what if theres a stupid chace these are 5.3 heads? i dont no why somebody would swap on 98 heads??
“I can tell you it is from a 2002 F-body LS1. The part no. is 12561184”
this was taken from corvetteforum.com that number is for camaros and firebirds ls6 style intakes the corvette ls6 intakes were different numbers…
as for the heads
“Casting #806 belongs to early 5.7l engines. They will have perimeter valve cover bolts. Casting #'s 706 & 862 are 4.8l and 5.3l heads. They like the later 5.7l heads will have center bolt valve covers.”
Thanks gsx, any help is good help
Well i found out alittle more info, as gsx said, its definately an LS6 intake. Somebody over on LS1Tech told me that the coolant temp senson in the head would have 3 prongs if it were a 98, and the 2 prongs if it was 99+ ? can anybody verify this? I do have 2 prongs for the connector. Also the vavle springs, i’m not sure what the stock ones looked like, were they beehive type? I need to bruch up on my LS1 info… Pix posted below… thanks again!
Mike
And what about block numbers? where might i find them, i crawled under the car and i’m not seeing anything…
Well the guy who twizted said sold it to you once was selling a 1998 SS on here. Although you said you bought it off a guy in Virginia. Looks like the guy had the car modded and was into LS1 stuff. Maybe he put a motor together with some different parts?
This is true, the guy that got the car for me does auctions and got the car for me from virginia. I have no idea what the answer is yet, when the car got dropped off i went up to see it, started it up, ran great, just had front end damage, i probly could have fixed the car and drove it. Although it would be pretty sweet to have a cammed ls1 but i doubt thats the case. This is the bad part about buying other peoples junk, u never no what your getting. Ill have to dig alittle deeper i guess…
I can see the head gaskets which do look fairly new, although they go look aftermarket but u can never really tell just by the little lip hanging out, and as for the head bolts, they are stock, not ARP…?? I dont no why they would take a motor out of a perfectly good working 98 car they are trying to sell and do a swap? although i did store the motor as his shop for awhile after it got pulled out… hmmm…
lol funny how i’m more excited about the motor than the interior, the interior is just a bonus for the girlies its all about the untouchable el es jaun Thanks for the compliments again, makes all the hard work worth while
