So I’m comtemplating buying another S13 for a winter beater/second car once I sell the Spec. I’m probably going to spend around $3000-3500 on it, and I don’t care much about minor rust.
What other cars should I look at though? I can’t think of any other cheap/fun cars that fit the bill. AWD or RWD, manual trans, no trucks. Any ideas? I like the idea of a second S13, at least I won’t be bitching 10 times a day how much I miss my summer car in those long winter months, plus it would be fun to drive and cheap to run, but I’m open to other cars as well.
buy a Mazda 323… I had one and bagged the crap out of it daily, drove it 500rpm past redline for every single shift, and the only thing wrong with it after all that abuse was a leaky valve cover gasket (maybe a few burnt valves too)
oh yeah, i also put 215’s on it instead of the stock 165’s and then proceeded to crash it into a curb while trying to get out of the way of an ambulance… ironic.
if your looking for a winter beater i heard jeff had a slow yellow CRX he was sellin pretty cheap… something about it being rusty and 2 different colors… good luck though :partyman: :finga:
I almost brought one in for $3000 US plus $750 CAN shipping (plus gst).
Its just too old a car to expect it not to have problems when you get it, so I decided against it. Instead I bought a Merkur XR4Ti… which was really fun in the winter (when it worked). I had numerous problems with it, but fun none the less.
Not too common unfortunately. Isnt there one for sale on the forum for $1800 though?
Come to think of it, I sold it cause all the little things annoyed the hell out of me. The windows popping off track when rolling down, power locks that didnt work, no power steering as the pump was fucked, leaked oil from everywhere, burned a on of oil on start up.

Was a very fun car though. :E[/quote]
There is 2 in Pick n Pull… maybe those would do? … hehe except the turbo missing on both, and they dont have wheels…
imho if you can’t afford AWD, get FWD for winter. It’s way more stable, and less likely to make your ass end slide out in the snow, which is really annoying.
I had a beater Chevy Corsica and I drove the piss outta it, and they’re super cheap. I put Beretta GTZ tires/rims on it (205/60/15s) and that car owned for the winter.
I say for a winter beater, get a Z31 or S12. Or, maybe a D21 Hardbody? Those are wicked little trucks, and some of them come with 4wd… They have the KA24 engine, so they’ve gotta be cheap to maintain and run.
