hey ron when you guys battle can i play as well? or would that not be fair?

GTO stock, and swap your built motor into something else. Or just keep it in the SHO if you want a fun track car seeing as it’s well balanced with a firm chassis.

Though I’m quite interested to see how it holds up in the new ITR class, but it just seems outclassed by a lot on the list.

As far a challenging people that race on a constant basis. Oh dear. :o

Were you at the nyspeed track day with your SHO?

My vote goes for getting an 05+ GTO and keeping it stock for a DD. The prices on 05’s are going down a bit and if you can find one in the NE right now you should be able to get a deal on it. Most people don’t want a 400 hp rwd car in the winter.

lol I was asking Ron for some pics of the GTO sence it seems like he already bought it. I have seen his SHO run a few times, very impressed with it.

Pfffft … bondurant … wtf does HE know about track cars ?

I’m sorry, but looking at the two STi owners aren’t allowed to bash the GTO interior.

I’ll take the one that’s NOT offered in an Auto

All joking aside, Bondurant runs what is given to him, the Beauty of sponsorship. Notice the Mustangs behind? Yeah all ford. They also cover techniques for FWD and RWD. What OTHER Ford would they have used for that time in FWD? A performance school is going to ask for the TOP in each category. Which sadly, at ford, isnt saying much.

Yeah, but the GTO comes with a 6 speed too, that was just one of the better images I found in a quick search. :stuck_out_tongue:

I know, just poking fun, I really enjoy both cars. Hell, I enjoyed driving an Fbody over the summer (LS1) although it had the WORST pedal placement of any car I’ve driven.

That reminds me, one more negative on the GTO. Stock, the gas and brake pedal are far enough apart that to heal toe I really have to use my heal and my toe, not sidestep the pedal. I’m going to be modifying the pedals at some point to fix this.

I’d take an ls2 gto over an sti anyday. The gto fit and finish is wayyy better than the sti.
400hp off the showroom flow is not slow. good for high 12’s?
Throw some cams and heads and exhaust and call it a day.

I’d love a gto. just wish they wern’t so danm heavy.

I think they look awesome in person as well.

THis is a must. The pedal placement is horrible!!! The only way I can even imagine heal-toeing is if I stand on the brake with my heal and toe the gas pedal with my foot at a 90* anlge… or maybe i’ll just grow another foot (probably easier). It could really use a dead pedal as well.

Yeah, reading over at ls1gto.com it looks like I just need to slap one of those pep boys ricer pedals on top of the stock gas pedal to make it just about perfect. It will raise it up to where it should have been in the first place, and make it wider. 05’s and “kinda” have a dead pedal. There is definitely a raise area to brace your free foot against that wasn’t there in the 04’s, but it’s not real big.

ehhhh GTOs just look so blah to me…they arent ugly…they just lack any sort of style whatsoever in my opinion.

and to compare one to an STi? please…the fact that they are just as fast as eachother when one has 100 more NA hp? lame…
it doesnt have AWD…
and a lot of it looks like it was taken out of the infamous GM Parts Bin…where half the cars share the same radio, seats, door handles, everything…no wonder they drop 20 grand in value after 2 years

Style… to each his own. I’m not in high school anymore so the STi style isn’t appealing to me.

Speed? The extra 100 HP is apparent after 60 mph. The subie gets the jump to 60 due to the AWD catapult launch, but still gets beat (4.9 vs 4.8 for the goat). 0-100mph the distance is growing (13.1 vs 11.7 for the goat) and by 130 the STi is looking at the Goat disappearing into the horizon (24.1 vs 19.6 for the Goat). Don’t believe me, head over to caranddriver.com and look it up.

Lack of AWD. Yep, one of the reasons I bought it actually. I enjoy the challenge of putting power to the ground with the rear wheels, and the ability to rotate with throttle > *. AWD is on the Subie because it’s a rally car for the street. Unfortunately you don’t see rally conditions on the street, so that’s pretty stupid. Sure, more traction in bad conditions, but how often do you race in bad conditions? You’re crawling around at 20mph because everyone else on the road is going 20mph.

The interior, as shown in the pics, has very little “GMishness” to it. I have my doubts you’ve ever even been in one if you try and say that.

Value wise, go check the prices for low mileage 05’s and 06’s. Unlike most GM stuff, they are holding their value very well. 04’s took a hit simply because the LS1 was replaced with the elle ess deux, along with several other upgrades.

But really, most people aren’t cross shopping STi’s and GTO’s. They are very different cars, despite both being calling sports cars. The GTO makes a great fast DD, but isn’t as great on a track. The STi is great on the track, but is pretty rough for what most people want in a DD. Personally I’d rather have a street biased car that I can make a few simple suspension mods to and have fun at the one or two track days I’ll go to each year but still enjoy the car the other 363 days of the year.

NICE…is that a kit or one off…or a chop

that’s a HRK chop of the Woodward GTO concept, also sometimes known as the “official judge” GTO

I did the grills, the coke bottle rocker panels, and the coke bottle belt line molding

edit: oh yea, i doubled the size of the hood scoops too

Speaking of GTO this is what happened to my friend John’s Gto last week. He went out in the morning to start it up. He started it up it was running wierd(sputtering) so he went up stairs to get this tuning screen to see whats up and when he got back down stairs he saw this.
